So I felt I needed a photo, so I put one up of me, Bruiser and Bailey. I got Bruiser and Baily in September of 1997. Bruiser/Bailey's mother was a purebred Golden Retriever and their dad was a purebred Labrador Retriever.I helped my mom deliver their litter and then spent the next 8 weeks helping to raise them. Then they came home with me and lived happily for the next 11.5 years. They died within 6 weeks of each other from hemangiosarcomas in their right atrium. As siblings, it is not unusual that they died of the same thing, or even within 6 weeks of each other, but what was unusual is that I got 2 dogs out of an 11 puppy litter that had this particular type of tumor. To our knowledge none of the other dogs died this way, although we hadn't heard from everyone. In any case, I got 11.5 years of happy times out of 2 large dogs.

I wanted to remember them a little bit before I get my new Doodle. It has been over a year now since they died, and of course I will never forget them, but now I am ready to make some new memories!

Will post a new picture once the Doodle arrives in 6 days!!!!

It's a beautiful photo and a beautiful tribute to Bruiser and Bailey. They will not be forgotten, even after your new puppy arrives. They will always be in your heart.
To paraphrase Eugene O'Neill, that we can open our hearts to a new dog after a beloved dog has died is a testament to the pet that is gone...that having known that kind of love and devotion, you cannot now bear to be without a dog.
May your new memories be as wonderful as your old ones!
