My puppy was born!

My puppy's litter was born on Thursday.  They are Australian Labradoodles and are 2 boys and 4 girls. 

I am the third in line to pick and had kind of been freaking out because I've always been dead set on getting a boy, not for any real reason- just what I've always had.  After allowing myself to settle down, I realized that I'd be totally happy with a girl and have gotten myself settled and excited about the opportunity to have a puppy of either gender.

So, if I bring home a boy, his name will be Ludo.  The name means "I play" in Latin and is very loosely tied to a Harry Potter character, Ludo Bagman.  He is described this way and it just felt really perfect for a dog:

"He was walking as though he had springs attached to the balls of his feet and was plainly in a state of wild excitement"

And if it is a girl, I'll name her Millie. It was on a short list of girl names based on my favorite musical Thoroughly Modern Millie and I have visions of getting to singing "beat the drums, 'cause here comes thoroughly modern Millie now" every time she runs over to me.  haha.

My breeder sent me a photo tonight and they're all such great colors. I'm excited to watch them grow and bring one home in nine weeks.

Good luck! Hopefully that one pup settles a bit or maybe they were all playing together. I'm sure they are all pretty goofy at that age.

Jessica, I get to pick this week, I think!  I've seen one video and have gotten tons of photos-- they're all adorable.  There was one puppy in the video who was REALLY growly towards the other puppies.  I know growling is a totally natural noise and it was probably just experimenting with sounds (they were only 3ish weeks) but it was lunging at the other pups and scaring them.  Suddenly I was like "I DON'T WANT THAT ONE," but I am keeping an open mind and not ruling any of them out.  I'm a bit nervous to let myself pick a favorite since I'm third to choose and might not get the one I'd have set my heart on.  I know I'll love whichever I get.  And how fun that you have heard of another Ludo!  Ive never seen one before!

I know this post is almost a month old now but any updates on your puppy?? Have you fallen for one in the pictures yet? One of the dogs that my boys are friends with on Instagram is named Ludo and I love that name so much!

Hi Nancy!  I'll absolutely be posting updates as I get them.  The puppies are 9 days old now, so hopefully they'll be opening their eyes soon and I'll get some more photos!  I can't wait!

Such darling puppies!  On the basis of exactly ZERO experience, I think you have your priorities straight :-).  I think both Ludo and Millie are great names.  I like names that have some great emotional association with the owner. Please keep us updated on how it goes, OK?

Katie- Whiskey is so adorable!  And thanks, I'm glad I came to terms as well. I am really looking forward to choosing based on the personality that is the best fit for me and not just because of their gender!
