My rescue boy proves he is *full* of surprises!

I recently adopted Poe from DRC. *Thank you, DRC!* He is 10 1/2 months old and simply the most joyous being I've ever met. He wags his tail wiggles his rear from the moment he wakes until the moment he collapses in an exhausted heap. Despite his deep mistrust of humans (what happened to you in your Other Life, Poe?), he escorts me from room to room and follows me around the yard as I do my chores. His training lessons prove that he is a prodigy beyond compare (can you tell how much I love this boy?).

This is my twinkie boy. His white patch proves he's all mushy inside.

With Talullah, Poe and a DRC foster, our yard has turned into a 24/7 dog park. The three dogs chase each other and romp for as long as we'll let them. The three big doods are a bit too much for us to handle on a walk, so we've been giving them plenty of time to romp around the yard for exercise. Other than during our trips to the vet, I hadn't had a chance to observe Poe on a leash.

Yesterday, my two-leggers wanted to go to a nearby playground. We leashed up Poe and took him along. Surprise, surprise, this dog walks better on lead than any dog I've ever had! He's better than all my other dogs combined. I was in disbelief; how could this boywho didn't even know how to sit when he came into our family be leash trained? He stuck right next to me, and even passed The Ultimate Dog Test: he made it by the life-sized plastic horse at the gas station without incident. Well, sure, he was curious, and sure, he stayed on the other side of me, but he walked past the horse without incident. Twice.

We're all loving having Poe in our pack! Thanks again, DRC!

Oh, Patty, I know it's not at all funny to you, but I'm picturing your pack covered in bacon grease, peanut butter, and crisco and then being let loose. It's actually a pretty funny visual. I'm thinking the pine sap would be the least of your worries. Do you suppose when our Doods have really good dreams, that's what they're about...I think maybe. LOL. I know SW CT has had a very tough week. In central CT we got those few wonderful warm, sunny days, but now more rain on the way. Just what you need.

Jacquie, nope.

Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.

I am definitely the lucky one in this equation. This boy... oh, this boy! We're all in love!

Karen hit the nail on head about that photo by the way. That is a very confident, happy, trusting sit. It is like Poe is strutting his stuff while sitting. Makes me happy ;)

"apply bacon grease, crisco, or natural peanut butter." Well sure, why don't I just apply all three and see what happens then?!! "
They might lick each other to death!
I love that proud sit in Poe's photo...no sloppy sitters here, Adina! You can just see the confidence!
You are the key that unlocked Poe's heart, Patty. Thank you for allowing him to be all he is meant to be!

DeeDee, I don't have a tutu on him yet :)

Jane, it's gloomy down state too - hard to take after all the sun for the past week! We were badly impacted by the ginormous storm last weekend here in the southwest corner of CT. Picture my pack of doods covered in pine sap. Oh yes, pine sap. We have several trees down, including a white pine that was at least 75 years old. After my husband chain sawed it to bits, all three dogs ended up with it on their coats. The advice I've found so far online to remove it all seems really, really bad: "apply bacon grease, crisco, or natural peanut butter." Well sure, why don't I just apply all three and see what happens then?!!

This is a "sunshine on a cloudy day" story. It's a gloomy day here, and hearing about Poe just turned my day around. He sounds so amazing. I can't get over that he is leash walking that well, and he must have already begun to trust you if he passed that Ultimate Dog Test. It is clear to see how much you already love this boy...I totally get that! Thanks for sharing this....I know I for one will be looking for more happy Poe stories.
