I do not know what got into Callie yesterday, but she out did herself in naughtiness. I haven't seen her so ill-behaved since the first week that I had her, before school and her learning all the "rules". It started Saturday morning...I woke up and the Callinator was laying at the foot of my bed, gnawing on my book. Not so good. We move on from that and I bundle up for our traditional long saturday morning walk. That starts out fine, until Callie decided it would be a WAY better idea to pee on my neighbor's front step instead of on the grass. We walk, walk, walk around the 'hood, me periodically jogging to try and get her more exercised. This did not diminish her energy a whit! She jumped up on two different walkers with wet, muddy feet, tried to pull me into a ravine chasing a cat, and in general behaved in a very unusual way. I was completely frustrated with her after that and I SWEAR she kept looking at me with an "oh yeah??" expression on her face. I would love to say it ended in the morning, but it kept up all day...here's a listing of what else transpired...
Counter surfed and grabbed, ate, and shredded a costco-sized bag of Stacey's Pita Chips
"Dug" on the sofa and enlarged the hole she already created (which she hasn't done since she created it, in april)
Refused to come downstairs so I could gate off the stairs...I had to go up and carry her down.
Kept licking picture frames on bookshelves (I felt like she was doing a taste test)
Refused to relinquish a pair of my underwear - I had to do a a bait and switch with some cheese
Ran rips (I think y'all usually call them "zoomies" - we've always called them rips) at a neighbor's house, endangering their tree and 6 year old (we've been in their house a billion times with no events like this)
Would not stop licking my feet (a particular peeve of mine) to the point that I had to go put on closed shoes (I generally wear flip flops around the house)
Ate a Hanukkah Candle (I still haven't figured out where she got it from)

This was one day...and I was gone from 6pm to 1am. Through all of this, I felt frustrated and annoyed but never really got angry - she's just so flipping adorable!

Fortunately, she woke up on the non-naughty side of the bed this morning. I took her to doggie day care anyway...Mama needed a break!

Does your Callie play fetch? I used to use a kong (with a plastic string attached). You sort of wind up your arm and throw it, it goes alot farther than a tennis ball. Then my dogs chased them and brought them back about 20 times, plus ran in the park twice a day when they were young. With smartness comes boredom. The first years (2 or 3) with my big retrievers were alot of work to exercise, but then they lazed around. I also threw the kong way out in the lake and had them swim for it. I agree with the daycare idea. This dog has alot of energy.

Ooh, I love those Staceys pita chips! Maybe all the excitement of the holiday season got Callie in a tizzy. When my kids were small, they were awful during December, just all wound up and out of control! I'm glad for you that she got it out of her system in one day!

Peri was nuts this weekend too. Totally nuts. No huge trouble areas, but that girl came inside COVERED in mud from digging at my parent's house yesterday. Smelled terrible and just looked up at us with those big doodle eyes. Hard to get mad :) We also found her chewing on the trunk at the end of our bed. Naughty girl. It is the weather - our walks have been cut shorter due to rain and wind.

Joyce - sounds like Wilson had a touch of naughty in him today too! I agree with everyone...our doodles are so adorable that they're even cute when misbehaving! I've had Callie since April 17th 2009 and I don't think I've ever yelled at her, or even spoken crossly. Used an exasperated tone, YES, but have never really felt angry.

I can always tell when Wilson needs more excersie..today..he shredded a towel in 5 mins flat..always when my attention is elsewhere..they are sooo smart..so it was time for a walk..it is 6' out today!! But a good nip in the air seems to take the rip out of him!!! love this dog!!! Callie...you are the sweetest doodle with all your antics!!

I think it must be this cold weather we are having. Harlow has been more bouncy, getting the zoomies/rips and general doodle mischeivious-nesses.

My goodness. She really did have a big day! Timbow has had a lot more energy from the cold weather. Hopefully she got it out of her system. Some of the 'bad days' end up being my favorite though. They are just so cute, even when they're misbehaving :-)

God bless doggie day camp!!!!!

Why do you think I was so upset about the pita chips? I wanted them all to myself!

My trash bin DOES have a cover (10+ years with a bassett hound mix taught me that!), but it was no match for the Callinator on NDD!

Callie's now worn out from doggie day camp and is sleeping like an angel. Where the bleep was this yesterday??

Ah, doodles, there is nothing better than a used tissue. Ah humans, there is nothing better than a trash bin with a cover.
