Day One - we headed off for a car ride - Toby quite happy in the back seat. We got to the vet, and they were lovely. Kind and loving to Toby, patient with us. Then we left. It made me so sad to walk away and leave him. But I knew he was in good hands.
The vet phoned around 2, and told us Toby did well, he did indeed have a testicle in his abdomen, but everything was fine. We could come any time after 4 o'clock. We headed off around 5, and picked up Toby. The poor baby - he was so disoriented and confused. It made me SO sad. When we got home he just wandered around, unsure of what to do, where to go, and how to get . It quickly became clear that the cone was not going to work for us, so I rounded up some men's muscle shirts, and tied one on him.
Day Two - not much fun. Toby was dazed, and I was coaxing him to eat and drink. I spent a lot of the day on the floor, and he spent most of the day sleeping on the ceramic tile, or in his crate. Everytime we went outside the t-shirt had to come off, boots, hat and jacket put on me, leash on Toby, and out we went. Reverse that all for coming in - except add to it wiping off the paws. In and out, in and out - especially with his two buddies on either side of our house barking for him to come out.
Day Three - things are going a little better. Toby is more mobile and eating a little more. I am not a fan of this post surgery thing....
Day Four - We are able to leave the t-shirt off for much of the day as he seems to be leaving the stitches alone. He does have some redness where he was shaved, which seems itchy, poor boy. This evening he is starting to feel much, MUCH better - which has resulted in the desire to play more boisterously, jump, run, etc. We are supposed to keep him still for another week. Should be interesting......
Day Five - I noticed that his inguinal incision is weeping a little - just clear stuff, but still....called my vet, who took us this afternoon, and took Toby in. Toby was great - and the vet even said that he was a funny guy. He told us Toby was great the day of his surgery. Anyway - Toby has some fluid build-up, which was starting to leak, because it has nowhere else to go. That accounts for the redness on the skin surface too. So we have antibiotics, and he said it would clear up quickly. And apparently there aren't many stitches left. I supervise Toby SO closely, but somehow he has removed some of them. So we will start the antibiotics with supper tonight, and go back in a week for a final check. His energy level is way, way up today, so the next week should be fun! :)
