Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

After much searching at shelters for a second dog to add to our family, we finally went to a doodle breeder, again.
Our 2 year old goldendoodle sunny is a DREAM, so sweet, smart, amazing with the kids, and hubby likes the not shedding part. well based on timing and price, we ended up with a blonde f1b labradoodle pup that hubby and son picked out. My daughter and I liked all the pups, but my son had an affinity for one, and he is not much of a dog person, so that was it! Well,....... puppy started off adjusting well........ except the crate i bought for crate training was too small for him ( we got this pup at 9 weeks) so we tried him out just in our "den" (room) and he didn't have an accident for a week, and to date only a couple. that is going great!! However, while he is a cute, humorous, goofy pup, this boy is TROUBLE. 1. The breeder was on a horse ranch and gave the pups SHOES to chew on as toys!!!! so of course his favorite thing (not for him) to have is a shoe in his mouth! not to mention he will chew on anything. Metal, bamboo, furniture, computer cords, clothing, and he actually eats wood and dirt! He ALSO is capable of digging holes in our backyard bigger than himself!................. soo i have been giving him little rawhide chewies which he devours. And so while our beautiful pup does not shed, the mud he trackes in from his giant dirt holes, combined with sprinklers becoming mud, makes quite a constant level of dirt in our small home. The last evil part of my story, is that my once angel of a dood Sunny, has started to pick up all of the puppys bad habits!!! She will now dig with him!!................. I am looking forward to getting B-buds vaccines finsished so we can take him to puppy school. btw
B-Bud was supposed to stand for basketball bud, but now stands for bad bud.!!!! stayed tuned for more shennanigans from this very naughty pup!

I am enjoying reading this. Ned still has his moments but he is most of this, thank goodness. We have a doggie door and I find sticks and leaves in the den every day - even rocks but no holes, shoes, or furniture lately.

Now you have me worried. Yankee is an angel and I intend to get another doodle in a few months. My husband keeps saying "the next dog might not be as well behaved". Yankee never chewed, was easily trained etc etc. I might be in the same boat as you with my next pup.

wow michele, that is pretty bad! :) thanks for giving me and b-bud some perspective! we did have a dog once that enjoyed eating cat poop, ugggh so gross. :)
I also forgot to mention another "great trait". the first week we had bud he would throw up every time he had a car ride, including three times the day we brought him home. Bbud then stood for barf bud. we have since let him sit in the front passenger seat for car rides, and he has been fine. Our other dood never got car sick......
:) will update soon with some hopefully good news.

I speak from experience...cayenne pepper will work for sure, but don't count on the poop as a deterrent. The yellow lab we had thought that dog poop (his and our golden retriever's) was the best treat in the world! Yuk!!!! it was an awful habit. Finally, the vet gave us a powder mixture to sprinkle on their food so that "the poop won't taste good" - honest to God, that's what he said! While I was always scooping, they had 2 acres to run around in, so I was always missing some. The powder did work most of the time, but once in while he would come back with that "breath". (Suddenly, B-Bud doesn't seem so naughty, does he? :) ).

great suggestion kath and keith, I will try that! At least putting poop in the holes will help fill them, and should make the grass grow back even better!!!! :)

Congratulations on the new puppy! Have you tried filling his holes witha combination of dirt & poop and then sprinkling cayenne pepper on top? Don't know if this will work for him but it did the trick for the Golden we had.
