Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Today I was so happy to be able to help the DRC (Doodle Rescue Collective) in helping transport a labradoodle named Barley to his foster family.
The morning started out going to Barley's owner's home. She was such a wonderful lady who rescued Barley from a high kill shelter in MidTN area. She had him for about 3 months, but she broke her knee and between rehab, etc...she just couldn't keep him. She was so upset and it really hurt my heart as I loaded up all of his things (she sent everything, bed, crate, blanket, toys, food, you name it). I assured her that the DRC would find the PERFECT home for him and she should have no doubt he will find his forever, forever home. Poor doodle was dropped off at the high-kill shelter by a family with small kids and he was too much for them to handle. She rescued him and now he is at his foster home as I write :) Barley is only 1 year old and has already had 2 homes.
Anyway, I apologize for the long post, but today was great. After picking him up, we made the 2 hour trip to Jackson, TN. DH drove me (bless him), so I could sit in the back with Barley and pet him and keep him calm. He did great. You know his most recent owner looooved him to death. He was so trusting and just kept looking at me with those kind doodle eyes. Seemed confused at times, but would put his paw on my lap and look at me like "I think you are okay".
We got to Jackson and the foster mom (Roberta - mom of Coach on DK) had hit terrible traffic, so we had to wait a bit. We found a great grassy area and just hung out for about an hour. We walked him, gave him water and just sat in the grass with him. What a happy doodle!
Here are some photos! If anyone can ever help transport or foster a doodle, I know the DRC needs help and I can pretty much assure you it will be a rewarding experience. My time spent today was just a small step in helping a sweet, trusting doodle get to his forever home. Barley is going to be NO PROBLEM for the DRC to place. What a wonderful dog. At only 1 year old, he has the best manners, is so kind, I mean, what a dood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some very lucky family is going to be able to call him theirs! I look forward to seeing where he goes.

Holding hands, he is very trusting, isn't he? My girls don't let just anyone hold their paws - only people they totally trust. Guess that says lots about you A!
Thank you so much for taking part of your Saturday to help a doodle dog in need!!!!
Allyson, thank you so much for helping Barley on this part of his journey home! I know he would thank you himself if he could.
He's having a blast with Roberta's Coach. She reports that he is a real sweetheart! I'm sure he's very confused, but so far he is calm and well-behaved, and settling into his foster home.

We are going to find this boy a perfect home where he will live happily for the rest of his life! Stay tuned. :)
