We learned about this approximately 9-month old Maltipoo who was in the Morena Valley, California (near Riverside) Animal Shelter. She had not been adopted because she was too ragged and filthy and she was too scared in the shelter to allow their volunter groomer to work on her. So it was a "Catch-22" no adoption out of the shelter until she was clean and no bath as long as she was in the shelter and scared stiff...
However it was just fear that caused her to growl. We don't rescue dogs who have a history of biting because of the liability insurance which we keep. But, when I met her, she allowed me to pick her up and look at her teeth to determine her age. No growling or biting! She was just shaking like a cheap motel bed with a coin massage slot!
I had her in a travel kennel in the passenger seat on the approximately 50-mile trip from Morena Valley to home. I talked to her throughout the trip and occasionally put my finger through the door to get to know her and more importantly to let her get to know me. When I arrived home, I removed her from the kennel and found tht she wasn't shaking a bit.
As I write his, Judy is grooming her with no poblem. However, my hoodie needs a serious trip thru the washer. Boy, did this girl stink. Next up - A picture of Valley Girl (that's what I named her) after a bath and a little TLC...

WOW awesome!!
Felicia's transformation is just amazing! What a treat to get to see her again.
We had 4-dogs adopted (pending home visits) at the rescue event today , But the most wonderful part of the day was when Felicia's "furever" mom brought her by to visit us. Do you remember the "starving pup - Felicia" who had been covered with foxtails and was pretty close to death when we rescued her?
Well here she is with her furever mom!
It's things like this that make all our work worthwhile!
Yay for the Shelter worker who made the mistake! She has the most beautiful eyes. I hope you find some wonderful homes tomorrow.
LUCKY DOG... GiGi is not a Maltese but, she is one darn lucky dog!
She was pulled by mistake and given by a Los Angeles shelter to one of our volunteers for delivery to us! We were expecting a male Maltese. However, we certainly are not bringing her back to the shelter and possibly euthanization. We will find her a home like we find the Maltese and Maltese mix dogs furever homes. We are getting the male Maltese tomorrow so this is a win-win situation for GiGi. She gets to live and will have a furever and loving home...
How many rescues do we have at our home right now - I really have to stop and count... I "think" that we have 11, counting the six puppies we received the other day. Of course, I might be off by one or two dogs...
We have a rescue event at the Unleashed in Poway, tomorrow, and will hopefully find some prospective furever families for our rescues...
I am waiting for the magical transformation your care will cause. Picture please.... It will be fun to see how the pups develop.
Richard, you are amazing! It will be very interesting to see how those darling puppies turn out. I hope you will update us!
Oh my goodness, how do you manage it all. This is such a sweet face, she already looks grateful that she is with you. I wonder if there is Jack Russell in that mix?
