Ozzy is having surgery tomorrow and I am worried

Ozzy is having both dew claws removed tomorrow and I can't help but worry about him....first the cone that they will put on his head will knock everything over at home...I keep thinking Zoey will try and help him get to the bandages. He is a big goofy happy dog and I just feel bad..I am sure he will recover faster than I will over this. Plus he is getting his first hair cut today and may look silly on top of all of it too. Why do we worry about our pets like they are children. I forgot they are my children. Let you know how it turns out tomorrow.

We love you, Ozzy! Get well soon! Zoey, be sweet to your big brother while he's healing. Gotta go, Mom's right around the corner and she thinks I can't type.

Love, Mazie

Ozzy did fine, both paws were done, now the big thing is to keep him from running and jumping for 10 days...so cute the bandages were St. Patrick wraps and a St. Patrick bandana too. Zoey is not so happy that she can not play with Ozzy like she wants. The vet let me take the dew claws home...They were HUGE and looked like a screw, that is how twisted they were growing right from the bone. Thanks for all your concerns.

Marianne, How did Ozzy do?

Marianne, do a search on the collars here on DK; we have had a number of discussions on alternatives to the cone-type collars. My favorite is the "Bite-Not" Collar. Here's their website:
http://www.bitenot.com/
Other people had other ideas for avoiding the "egyptian" cone collars if you don't want to use it.
I don't blame you a bit for worrying, it's terrible when our doodles have to have any kind of surgery, and you're right, it will be harder on you than it will be for Ozzy. We will all be thinking of you both & hoping Ozzy sails through like a champ and you remain sane, lol.
I also agree that Ozzy may not chew the bandages...Jackdoodle had severely torn pawpads twice, and the one time, they bandaged & wrapped his feet & legs so thoroughly, he didn't so much as lift an edge of the bandage. It may not be as bad as you think.
Hugs to & Ozzy...it will soon be over!

we'll be thinking about you and Ozzie.
Murphy cut the pad on his front paw badly in September. (it took 8 weeks to close.) Murphy the conehead was not cool. I did put a sock over the bandage and wrap the top with the stretchy stuff that just sticks to itself.
That might be your best bet.

I'm sure Ozzy will do just fine. At least if he gets a bad haircut, the cone and bandages will keep his mind off of it.

I didn't know!! OMG - poor Mommy!! When Samantha broke her toenail they just put a bandage on her foot that no how, no way she would lick off. It was wrapped first in cotton, then guaze, then kling wrap (a PIA to remove if you know what you are doing and have 5 fingers)
If you really need the cone, try and get the soft cone - the one they put on Samantha, the hard plastic, wouldn't fit in my car it was so darn big.
I will call you later,
A

Matilda had surgery on her foot last month. She hates the collar and will not move with it on. Luckily I know that she is not a licker and is gentle with everything, so I went to the dollar store and got her some baby socks. The wound could still breathe because of the cotton socks and she wasn't able to lick while I was sleeping. Good luck with Ozzy tomorrow. It will be fine, but I know how we can worry. Here's a pic of Matilda after her surgery with her baby sock on.
