Yesterday morning, Penny told us it was time for her to go. Her mast cell cancer, which she had fought valiantly for more than a year, just plain wore her out.
We spent the day saying our final thank you's and goodbyes. In the afternoon, a very special hospice vet came to the house, and Penny went to sleep in her favorite spot, surrounded by more love than the room could hold. She went peacefully and you could see the relief on her face that she was no longer in pain.
While we are, of course, devastated, we are happy that she is no longer suffering. We feel very good that we knew when the time was right without her suffering more than she had to. And there are no words to relate the amount of joy she has given us over the last 7 years. She was not only an amazing member of the family; she made the love between my husband Ron and myself all that stronger.
We move forward one day at a time with broken but full hearts. Now it is time to love and care for Biscuit as she tries to find her way without her big sister.
We want to thank each and every one of you who have continued to reach out to us during this past year. We joined DoodleKisses when it was just brand new, and have made friends for a lifetime. Your love and concern have meant the world to us, and we look forward to sharing Biscuit's life with you the days unwind.
Penny loved you all... and so do we.

Michelle, I'm so sorry about the loss of your beautiful Penny. Thank you for the wonderful remembrance honoring her. I fell in love with her as I watched it. I'm sure this is a huge loss for you and I hope you are able to get thru this sad time with wonderful memories of your Wonderful Doodle girl.
I am so sorry for her departure..... Sending our prayer your way,,,,
Your slide show made me cry. It's beautiful.....
So very sorry for this news. :( It is so wonderful that Penny had a family that took such wonderful care of her and was there for her when she was too tired to carry on. Wishing you and yours better days ahead.
My eyes filled with tears when I read the title of this blog. Love to you Michelle and your family. Penny lived a valliant and noble life. She was a wonderdog.
I'm so sorry Michele. I haven't been on DK in a while but kept thinking of Penny. Her life with you was filled with all the love and fun a wonderdog could have asked for and now it is time for her to romp at the bridge. She'll be missed far and wide. My heart goes out to the Penny the Wonderdog family.
Your tribute to Penny is beautiful. Thank you for sharing
I am so sorry, Michele and Ron. Penny was always one of my 'special' dogs on doodlekisses. She was there at the beginning when I looked for dogs Ned would grow up to look like and I wish behave like. I adored her name - Penny the WonderDog - special and unique just like she was. In looking at your video tribute, the last picture you show caught such a sweet and loving expression. I so wish we had been able to meet her in person. Perhaps Ned and Biscuit will be able to meet one day. Please give Biscuit a special hug from her big brother, Ned, and his brothers, Clancy and Gordie. Again, I am just so sorry.....
This made me so teary... I didn't know Penny but now I feel like I did. Clearly she was one very special girl.
