As I have said before, the dogs are adjusting well to having a human sibling (Charlotte).

I went back to work about 6 weeks ago and I think that's been harder on them than the baby being born!

They stay in the playroom and kitchen area during the day - they have 6 huge windows to look out with views of the front and back yards, as well as the driveway. They can really be on guard for us :)  They like to sit on the backs of the couches and sleep, bark at the neighbor's dogs (that are out all day!), etc...

Well, right after Christmas, I moved their big dog bed to the other side of the entertainment center to make room for Charlotte's toy organizer.  I didn't even think about the fact that I was 1) making a big change to their habits and 2) removing Taquito's mode to get up on the couch!  You see, Tacky can't jump on the couches without help!

Fast forward to me being back at work. For the first few weeks, there were a handful of times that we would come home to pee.  It would be all under Charlotte's jumperoo thing. I figured it was them acting out about the baby.  Didn't think it was a UTI or anything because it was happening too randomly.  Also thought they were okay because they get walks in morning, go pee at least twice and we are home between 4 and 5 daily (they were completely used to this pre baby).

Then it hit me!  Taquito was coming out of his crate when we came home in the afternoon. His crate! Not the couch.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?  I believe that Taquito was mad that he couldn't get on the couch and marking in the floor. There was a lot of pee, so I think Peri was marking on top of Tacky!  I bet if I had a camera, that's what I would have seen.  I see them do it all the time.  Tacky squats outside. Peri immediately follows and marks on top (with leg lifted lol).

For the past two weeks, I have put their bed right by the couches and there have been no issues. I come home to both dogs sleeping on the couch in the afternoon :)  Watch I'll jinx myself.

We have a rug coming tomorrow for the playroom...oh lordy I hope they don't start peeing on that now!

I second Lynda's baby gate suggestion.  We have our living room / dining room area gated off - mostly because of two-year-old Kayla, but also because Sedona's an occasional puker.

Sounds like pretty typical doggy behavior to me. And it is a big adjustment for everyone having a baby in the house. Can you close a door to the playroom when you are not at home? Or maybe a baby gate? You may want to protect the new rug for a while.

You are brilliant!

Glad you figured all of this out and I hope the rug is safe. Kiss the Baby!

I guess they told you :) LOL Sounds like they didn't like how you rearranged things. Vern gets all bent out of shape if I move his bed to mop. Crazy dogs!

It took you long enough according to Taquito.

LOL, Ally, maybe you should have posted this blog after you got the new rug!

Glad you solved the mystery! Dogs really do not like change!

The mysteries of dogs left at home alone... such detective work on your part!

That is so interesting. Sometimes I wish I had a window into Allie's thoughts. I guess it's better that you figured it out on your own and didn't have to hear what Tacky was saying about you ;-)
