Sadly my boy Gus died at the vet this past Monday. He got up that morning and seemed under the weather and wasn't interested in his breakfast. He was fine all weekend and I just thought he wasn't feeling good. I got a call at work from the dog walker saying Gus couldn't get up. I took him to the vet and they discovered his body temperature was dangerously low so they started to try warming him up and give him fluids through a IV. Initially they were thinking Addison's disease from the symptoms he displayed. While waiting on the results of blood work they tried to get some urine to test and couldn't get any even with a catheter. They were preparing to do a ultrasound to check why his bladder was empty(after being given a lot of fluid through the IV) he went into cardiac arrest and they couldn't save him. In the end they determined he had sudden onset acute renal failure. The senior vet told my later that he's only seen acute renal failure happen this fast only 2 times in his 43 years.
My other doodle Lilly has spent most of the week wondering where her brother is. She's slowly starting to get back to old self. We're going to take the long Veterans Day weekend away in Gettysburg, PA for a change of scenery.
Rest in peace my sweet boy. You had a amazing 12 1/2 years and are going to be missed by a lot of family and friends.

My Jake just passed a few weeks ago. They look alike. Jake was fine that day. It was evening and we were all in the living room watching tv. I was actually looking right at him. He just collapsed and fell right off the couch. Within five minutes he was gone. Think his heart just couldn't keep up with his body. But he was only nine! Six months prior he had a little episode. We took him to the vet and they said he seemed fine and there was no damage. Something in the pit of my stomach didn't feel right. My German Sheppard that I had years ago had the same thing happen to her. She had two episode's and the third one was bad and we had to put her down. It was a stroke. But she was sixteen. I just felt like we were living on barrowed time with Jake but had faith and really thought he would be fine since he was only nine. Thankfully he didn't suffer. Actually he was healthy as could be.
I am sorry to hear about Gus.
I am just reading this now and am very sorry that your sweet Gus is gone, and so suddenly. I hope that you and Lilly are able to find comfort in one another as you move through this sad time.
I am so sorry for your loss.
Thanks everyone for your kind words.
Oh! I am so sorry--it must be so hard to have no warning--RIP sweet boy.
I am so sorry for your loss. Gus was well-loved and I know you will miss him terribly. My heart goes out to you.
So sorry for your loss. Gus sure was a beautiful boy. I am sure he lived an amazing life with you.
Joe, I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope he running somewhere with Quincy and all the other doodles that have left us this year. It is heartbreaking when we expect it but more so when it comes at us so suddenly. Sending you and Lilly a hug. You were one of our first friends on DoodleKisses and this last year we have lost so many of our precious doodles that brought us all together.
Oh Joe, I'm so sorry to hear this. Ugh. I worry that we are nearing that point with Rosco and sending you a virtual hug this morning.
