Oh, and so is her momma! It has been a rough 3-1/2 months since I found out that my DH (and I no longer mean dear) wanted to continue his life without me. I had just started a new job and was in a town we had relocated to because of his job.
My dream house (had built on a golf course) has been up for sale for the past 3 months...getting some action on it now and I am praying it sells soon. Many people have said they wanted to buy it, but they had a house to sell first. Had two showings today and I am confident it won't be long.
My plan was, once the house sold, to move back out to California. I moved away from CA in 1976 and have missed my family. Many times I thought of moving back, but a reality check of the real estate market put an end to that. Things have actually changed now...while I can't afford a house like I have now and won't be able to afford one on my income in the same town as my sisters, I can find an OK house 20 or so minutes away that Rua and I can call our own.
So, I actually have to thank my DH for asking for a divorce, because this is now giving me the opportunity to move back to California. I was hoping to sell the house first, then move, but I have no control over the housing market so Wednesday night I decided that the only thing I could control was moving. So, after talking to my sister Wednesday night (confirming that she was still willing to have Rua and me move in with her) I gave my notice on Thursday. I gave them a 2+ month notice, with my last day being Friday, April 13th (no, I didn't plan on that). I'll then get things packed up, loaded and will hit the road. Unsure if I am having a moving company haul, or if I can get away with a moving truck and tow my vehicle. I am hoping that Mimi Linna (Lilly's mom) will still be available to drive out with me (she has an adult child in San Jose so can also visit and then fly back).
I have highly transferrable skills and outstanding job references, so I don't think it will take me too long to find a job...I'll probably start off doing temp work so I can make sure I find the right job. I figured that as long as I can live rent free at my sisters, and can get some type of a temp job, I might as well move out. I realized I would rather continue to pay my 1/2 of the mortage/taxes and be surrounded with love, and to be sharing a house with my soon-to-be EX
I am so excited and I can't wait. California here we come!

Just saw this, Dori. It sounds like you are doing the best thing for you and Rua. I hope everything works out perfectly for you!
Thank you all for the kind words and support. It it such a huge weight off of my shoulders having a plan that I can control. I will be moving to the Bay Area initially, and would like to end up buying not too far from there (don't need to see my sisters daily, but want to be close enough for at least weekly without a lot of commute). I also just posted a 99 designs contest (like DK did) for the logo for www.kangarua.com. I got some good ideas to start the ball rolling from a couple of DK'ers, so if you want to get in the running and make $200, check out www.99designs.com. Well, I have some collars to work on so I have something to sell once I get my site up and running!
Again, that you all. I truly do not know how I would have gotten through the past 3-1/2 months without all of you, and of course, my sweet Rua (who at this very second is 1" away from my chair, doing what she does best, snooze)!
Dori, It sounds like you are being proactive in a positive direction. Good For You! Good luck with everything.
Sounds like the right thing for you and Rua, to be with family and friends is way better than your current situation. I also hope that you sell your home sooner rather than later just so you can move that worry off your plate and start "saving" for your dream little bungalow in Ca., is this Northern Cal Dori?
I wish you all the best, I know you are going to be just fine.
this is exciting! Good luck to you and Rua! I can't wait to hear all about your adventures in California.
I bet you will love it there! Good luck and keep us posted!
Dori, I am so sorry for the upheaval and stress that has been in your life lately. Ned and Clancy (true native born surfer doods) want to welcome the very cool Rua to California and would love to teach her all the cool beach lingo so she can fit into her new crowd. They both are quite charmed by redheads.
This is such great news, Dori! I am excited to meet you and Rua, soon. Hoping the packing and drive out go smoothly. Keep us posted. hugs and doodlekisses from us to you.
Dori...I am so excited for you and Rua. Way to go, just pack up and leave and to heck with the house!!! My daughter lives in San Jose and I go up there quite a bit. Sometimes DH and I drive up with Gracie Doodle and other times I just fly up for a weekend or so. I just flew up two weeks ago to paint the baby's room for our daughter who's first baby is due April 1 and we hope to be up there hopefully in time for the birth. Won't be able to drive though. After that...I will be there so much that I should probably buy stock in Southwest Airlines!!!! Let me know where you end up and when I am up there we can get together!!! It would be so much fun!
