Another dissappointment.
I went into one of our pet stores this week. This was a pet store that had taken in OSPCA pets to help them with adoption. I figured that is a store worth supporting. I went in and one of the staff was on the phone talking about the pets they had in the store and what the vet had done and didn't do. He didn't give some shots as they weren't healthy at the time. (just catching some of the conversation) She was also talking about bringing in doberman pups this week too. They had two little pugs pups together. They also had another puppy in another cage. I played with them. The one seemed to shiver like when you have a fever but get a chill. I mentioned it to the lady and she said she would get him another blanket. She cam back with another scrap of a towel. He had one scrap in there already. Wire bottom cages with a box to lay in. I played dumb and asked about the breeder and stuff and she said they were from an ex employee that knows the quality of pets they take. Only breds pugs (doesn't explain where the dobermans are from) but the lone puppy was a pug boston terrier cross. Why would a pug breeder cross these two breeds? I wish there was some way to advertise that these dogs are from byb of mills.
I was at the ospca and went in to play with the pets. They have a beautiful fun sweet boston terrier pup, adorable. They have a beautiful black lab cross( looks pure lab though) he is so sweet and quiet and can shake a paw and play ball and those eyes. They had a fearful cross breed to I tryed to interact with. The cats were totally hilarious even a gorgeous siamese kitten with caramel tips and blue eyes.
I wish I had never purchased a dog I feel guilty. But I also am glad that We educated ourselves and found out the truth and got a good breeder with all the right info. I just couldn't go through the amount of shedding anymore. I have a disaability that isn't going to get better. My husband does everything already. Our kids should be gone....now?
Then I go on the kijji web site and facebookmarketplace to find a crate fr our upcoming flight. There are people advertising for mates to breed there mutt (used lovingly) to so they can have one of their offspring, what they are going to do with the other 7 or 8??? Why would anyone do this???? I can't seem to get my head around it. I want to do something but I am helpless. My friend said the OSPCA knows where alot of these mills are and that there is no law against it just if they are doing it cruely.
There is enough problems in the legal and moral aspect of children and people who should never of had kids and the out come that presents that are not getting attention either. There seems to be no hope for either. I have tried to do the right thing for children in these situations, thwarted at most every turn. To even try to right the wrongs against animals seems evven more futile. I never seen myself as an activist because I have never been active against this cause. I am starting to get obsessed with wondering what can be done other than spreading the word in my small world.
Sorry to bring the awsome fun blog down. I just wanted to vent a bit. Brain leaked!

You know Karen, I was so naive about pet store pups for many, many years. I believed the rumor that the pups were from breeders but were not the quality they wanted to advertise or sell from their kennels. Sounds reasonable doesn't it? Now that I know better, I won't buy anything from a store that has puppies for sale no matter what they say.

Lorraine, there is a website called "Prisoners of Greed" that has a lot of info on puppy mills and commercial breeders, and what we can do to help the animals and change the laws. I know you will be interested in it. Also, "No Puppy Mills Canada"
99% of pet stores in the US and Canada sell puppies from puppy mills. I know we hear about exceptions, but they are few and far between. We have to ask ourselves, why would a breeder who cares about his/her dogs take them away from their mothers and put them in cages in a store? On top of that, the store gets the lion's share of the purchase price, along with the broker. Why would a legitimate, responsible breeder do this, for little profit? Sometimes we want to believe what the nice store owner tells us, but the facts just don't add up. It is possible for anyone who is wondering to get a free report at petshoppuppies.com on their dog's "breeder" if they have the name & other info from the pet store. The AKC and other dog registries issue registration papers to puppy mills for a fee.
The major supplier (broker) of puppies to pet stores in the U.S. and Canada is the Hunte Corporation, which is based in Canada. If you google them, you will find numerous organizaitons trying to fight them, as well as numerous details of their cruel practices, such as shipping 6 week old puppies thousands of miles in unventilated trucks.
Thank you for being concerned, for wanting to help stop these practices, and for spreading the word
