Rusty crossed the Rainbow Bridge today

After a very courageous three year battle with cancer, kidney and liver issues, Rusty is in a better place tonight.  Because of his unfailing determination to overcome everything that life dealt him, we had a lot more time with him than we could have possibly hoped for.

Throughout all of his battles, he never lost his zest for life and was always the happiest, friendliest and most loving companion anyone could hope for.

Words cannot express the love that we have for him and now we have an empty hole in our hearts that will heal in time, but he will always be there.  He provided so much joy for my mother during her final years; hopefully they will be reunited and can again enjoy each other’s company.  We want to thank all of his friends and supporters, as your love and prayers provided extra incentive for him to be so brave in his battles against impossible odds.

What a long and hard fought journey Rusty had.  I am so happy that you got 3 extra years to make more memories.  I sure that Sophie was there to meet him !

God of all creatures, ease our grief today as we bid farewell to Rusty, whose passing leaves a gap in our family circle. He demanded so little of us – fresh water, food, a patch of sunlight for sun-bathing, our presence – and gave so much in return – uncritical, undemanding, unlimited affection and devotion for all of us.

Greeting each day, each moment, happily on its own terms, he showed us how to live in the present rather than regret the past or worry about the future. His easy forgiveness of our flaws, his inability to hold a grudge, gave us an example of grace.

Creator, we are grateful for being allowed to share his life for our allotted time. We will miss him bounding through our family life, but he will always be present in our hearts. Amen.

Dear Jan and Chuck,

I am so deeply sorry for your loss! We all knew how much you both loved him and he loved you!
