Last night, my youngest was walking Phoebe around our front yard--think super tiny yard with me beside him and Phoebe in her head collar which makes her a super listener..usually). My daughter decided to try to upset my son by racing in front of him...can you imagine what happened next? Phoebe took off after her like a shot and my son tripped and fell letting go of the leash. I remained 'eerily calm' as my DH told me and followed her into the back to see where she was headed while I sent DH along the front to get her if she ran out toward the street (thankfully a very quiet cul de sac). Phoebe had run to a house two doors away as there is a little dog there she is dying to play with. I quietly lured her back to me with the promise of my son's new biking gloves I had in my pocket. She was fine and I was fine until later when I was showering my son and it all hit me--I got so dizzy I had to have my DH finish the shower which NEVER happens. Clearly, this doodle mommy has to work on recall with her doodle and be more diligent about training. My daughter now understands the gravity of her actions and my poor son was so frightened I don't think he will ask to walk Phoebe for a while. It could have been so much worse and we are so thankful that it worked out as well as it did and lots of lessons were learned!

It just takes one experience like this and it is a wake up call. I am pretty sure we all have experienced one terrifying moment with our Doodles. I certainly have and the "visual" I get just brings me to tears and grief. But, because everything turned out OK, it was a good learning experience. I am so glad everything worked out and that Phoebe is safe in your arms!

Whoa! Thank goodness everything turned out well. Try not to run over in your mind too much! I do that so often....That picture you make yourself have - is most times worse than what actually happened - I know how scared you must have been and still can feel now... so glad all is well! We ALL need to brush up on recall...

Ned is two and finally comes when I call but he is not trustworthy even though we work on it. Clancy, well let's just say Clancy doesn't have a clue that there is such a thing as recall. We are working at sitting in front of the RV door and then entering on command. We took our hands off of him just for positioning and he just trotted off. This is in a strange RV park at night. Luckily I grabbed cookies and he decided to mosey on back. SO SCARY.

Great that you thought so quickly and didn't panic. I'm sure this was also a frightening experience for the kids. I'm so glad everything turned out well. That solid recall is so important, yet always a challenge with our "free spirited" Doodles.

I am so glad she is safe - I am sure the majority of us need to work on recall more. Thanks for the reminder!

I'm glad it worked out. No child or doodle is perfect but it's a goal to keep working toward.

I'm so glad it worked out and Phoebe is safe. Kudos to you for staying calm, and thanks for reminding us how quickly and unexpectedly these things can happen!

I am so glad everyone was safe and uninjured. I know that delayed feeling of panic when all the 'what ifs' begin to seep in. Good thing you were able to stay calm and lure Phoebe back.
