Talk about tug at your heat strings. I just took Rooney, on a cold and windy Florida day to our dog park. We were early and there were no other dogs there - just a grandmother and her two small grandchildren. A little girl about 7 was just laying on a park bench coughing. I said to the Grama "oh dear, someone has a bad cold." She said "no - she has cystic fibrosis." By this time the little girl's younger brother had started to play with Rooney and they were running and chasing each other but all of a sudden Rooney went right up to that little girl laying there and started licking her hand. Before you knew it she was up and playing with Rooney too. I think for a few minutes she got to not feel so sick. Sadly the Grandmother had to leave then as it was time for the little girl to get her treatment. As they left I told them that Rooney comes to the park every day and that they should come back again, he loved playing with them. For all of us that have healthy children or grandchildren we need to remember to be so thankful!

Jane, that brought tears to my eyes. It always seems like Hunter just knows when one of my girls is sick. She will lay with them, lick them and just be extra sweet. When you hear about a child with something like that it just breaks your heart. One of my 11 year old daughters best friends since 1st grade just started chemotherapy for cancer and you just want to cry and yell that its "not fair!!". Rooney brought a right spot to that poor little girls day and I am sure she will never forget you or Rooney. I hope that you run into them again. Everything happens for a reason and God works in mysterious ways is the only thing I can ever say for sure.

Oh Jane...I hope they come back too!
I know what you mean about the little girl being your Angel...
It's times like these...that make us stop and think about 'ALL' that we have to be :thankful: for.
I'm sure that Rooney was her Angel too...as he brought a smile to her face...and made her laugh...and filled her heart with the love that a Doodle can bring!
I have a "feeling" that you will see her again...

Can't sleep. Wishing I had gotten the Grama's name or something. I sure hope that they come back. It was strange finding them inside the dog park but they didn't have a dog. Meant to be I guess. I'd like to think that Rooney was her angel for a minute but I'm starting to think that the little girl was MY angel. Sent to remind me to be more grateful.

Awe! Yeah for Rooney! My friend's granddaughter has CF too... it is wonderful how Rooney got her up and about.... hopefully her Granma will bring her back again! I just love when these dogs tune into people's needs.

Rooney you are the best! I work at a children's hospital and I know kids with Cystic Fibrosis and anything that can make them feel a little better is totally great.

This is a really sweet story, Jane. You're so right about counting our blessings when our kids and grandkids are healthy. Rooney is already showing signs of being a great therapy dog....just saying. Get ready for that Therapy Dog training - it's the best!

Isn't it amazing, as young as Rooney is, he understood, or felt that this little girl needed his touch, wtg Rooney!!!..I hope they will be able to come back so the kids and Rooney can play again. And yes those of us that have children that are healthy need to step back every now and then and be thankful for our healthy children...
