Today, some bees were flying around Huff's head. The great hunter he is, he started snapping at them and one of them stung his lip. he immediately got up from laying down and was running around in pain and confused. I looked at his lip and the stinger was still there. We couldn't get it out with our fingers (he wouldn't stay still) so we ended up using hemostats, and got it out. Poor dood!:( He was back to normal after that.:) It was so sad. I wonder if he learned a lesson?

@F -- My Mom used to use a paste made with baking soda!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions but I have not noticed any swelling. There may have been a little swelling right when he got stung but it seems like it went away right after we pulled the stinger out. It was sad. haha:) He kept licking his lips when the stinger was still in his lip. When we pulled it out, he was all back to normal.:)

I don't know how it works in dogs, but I rub meat tenderizer in the area after a sting. I just make a pste of it with water. The meat tenderizer neutralizes the venom.

Ouch ..... one of my major fears with the girls!  Maybe they need to have Bee training like the rattlesnake training GracieDoodle goes to!

Oh, Huff--I know just how you feel!  When I was very little I jumped on bees in the dandelions with my bare feet.  Such shock and horror!  They didn't like it!  P.S. -- this is Traveler's MOM, not Traveler.  LOL

I forgot to state what Nancie said. We had a Lab that got stung by a bee and her whole face swelled up in minutes. It was very scary and the vet had us give her Benedryl. I do not remember the dosage, but you need to watch for that if it happens again.

If he swells up the vet said to give them Benedryl...unfortunately I don't know the dosage but you could probably Google it.  Probably a child's dose.
