So glad I went to California to visit my Daddy!

On my way home from work tonight I got a call from my sister.  Funny how I knew what that call was for.   My Daddy had just died.   He was 93 in July, lived an absolutely wonderful life.  He was a great Daddy to all of his kids (blood and chosen - I was chosen when he married my mom when I was 11).  He always had a smile on his face and a story to tell.  He worked with his hands his whole life...he was a cabinet maker.  The last thing he made was a china hutch for my nephew...this past fall.

 

He hung on until I could come out and visit.  My last morning there (1/25), before I went to the airport, he was already checking out.  I am so blessed to have had him in my life and thank God I got to see him before he died

 

My DH, Rua and I are heading to Florida tomorrow as planned.  Daddy has giving his body to science (they are going to be amazed that his body held up given he smoked almost up until the day he died)!

 

I love you Daddy!  Your oldest daughter, Dori.

I am so sorry about your Dad. It sounds like he was a wonderful man.  I am so glad you were able to visit him recently.   I lost my Dad six years ago and I still miss him.

I'm sorry to hear of your dad's passing.  I lost my dad this past June and I miss him every day.  It's never easy, but knowing that one lived a full, wonderful life helps a bit.

Dori, I am so sorry for your terrible loss. Your dad sounded like a special man. When my dad died, I arrived home 45 minutes before he passed away and I always felt like he waited for me too. It is so hard, at any age, to lose a parent. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
