Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My parents are animal lovers but they love animals outside. Growing up in rural eastern Kentucky we had dogs, flying squirrels, etc. But they were not indoor pets. My dad has had numerous dogs. All of which he loved and spoiled. His current dog "Ho" (I have no idea of the origin or meaning of this name) is a great dog. Ho is a mixed breed mutt that he rescued during a fishing trip, Dad and his fishing buddy put the boat in on a little island at the lake. Three little puppies had been dumped off. They were afraid of course so Dad and his friend took food out every day for several days until they could get close to them. They brought them all home. They found homes for two and Dad kept the third one. Dad's buddy always carried pet food in the trunk of his car just in case he found a hungry animal. It was a sad day for the local homeless animals when he passed away. Dad is very concerned about his animals even though they live outside. He heats his huge detached garage all winter just so they are warm and comfortable.

In our sweet Clay's early years we kenneled him locally during our trips. Later as he got a little older, Mom and Dad would take care of him while we traveled. He loved it and they enjoyed the temporary company. He followed Mom wherever she went - she is an excellent cook and he was a champion crumb catcher. So when I was in the early stages of considering another dog, I asked them how they felt about us bringing another puppy and they being the ever supportive and wonderful parents they are encouraged us to get another dog.

We already had plans to visit them the weekend after Sophie came. So we surprised them. They loved, loved, loved her. My Mom asked about spaying and I told her that we were going to schedule that asap. She said why don't you let her have one litter of puppies? I asked why. She said she wanted one. I about flipped out. My mom has never, I mean never, said that about any dog. Mom is in love with Sophie just like everyone else who meets her. Sophie had a wonderful visit and Mom can't wait for us to schedule a weekend trip so she can watch her. As we were driving home I told my husband, we need to get Sophie trained a little better before we leave her with Mom and Dad as she still tries to dart out open doors at times. He said that he was only worried that after a weekend at Mom's she wouldn't want to come home. .

It is so great that your parents love dogs, and of course they love Sophie! Who wouldn't? :-)
