Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
With sad heartbreaking news our sweet beautiful intelligent silly best friend passed away from bloat 2 months shy of her 11th birthday. She was the love of our life and moving on has been so hard. I haven't posted in years on DK and just now have figured out how to get back to posting. I did inform some of the people I know here through Facebook. Graciedoodle was in the best of health, perfect athletic weight and very agile. We have known about bloat since the day we brought her home so always took the necessary precautions against playing or activities after eating or drinking. Our vet told us it can happen in older deep chested dogs due to the lenghtening of muscles and ligaments the stomach can get sloppy and sway around more. Just a quick movement as jumping up on the bed or turning wrong can cause bloat (hard to believe it is that easy). Gracie died in my arms at 3 am on the way to the ER.
We now are waiting for a new little girl to be born any day. I know it is soon but when you both are in your 70s you need to not spend time "thinking about it". We loved Graciedoodle so much and need to keep loving a beautiful Doodle girl.

I am so very sorry about your loss. Gracie was a special dog. Since Holly passed her tenth birthday last Christmas, I hate to see a calendar because it reminds me how fast time flies. Gracie Doodle will be waiting for you by the Rainbow Bridge!
I’m really looking forward to your choosing experience. Be sure to share how you choose or how Nellie chooses
ypu. Will the real Nellie please raise a paw!
Oh good! I can't wait to "meet" her.
Ka!ren...you are correct with the California law. I had her birthdate wrong so yes, NellieDoodle will be coming home at 8 weeks
Jasper came home at 10 weeks. Those extra weeks with his mom and litter did make a big difference, especially with bite inhibition. I also believe it's against the law in CA (and 24 other states) to take a pup from the mother before 8 weeks. :)
I agree with Nancy! I got Pippa bit later (17 weeks) and I cant say enough about how good she was! She was not a very mouthy biter, never used us as a chew toy, and she never chewed anything not given to her.
Nancie, you might not want to pick your pup up before 8 weeks as they need that socialization/ training they get from their moms and siblings. I know you got Gracie early and that turned out just fine— she was pretty perfect in every way, but the pup you get this time might need a bit more mommy discipline before coming to you.
Oh Nancie, I'm just now reading this and my heart is breaking for you. I don't think it is every too soon. It is really hard to be sad with a puppy in the house. Besides, Gracie Doodle wouldn't want you to be sad. She is with you and always will be. As I walked thru the living room the other day the pillows were all on the floor and I said to Mike "Sophie has been here" because she always pushed all the pillows off the sofa! The puppy will help mend your heart but it doesn't mean you loved Gracie any less. I look forward to seeing little Nellie grow up! Please continue to post here as she does.
Oh my gosh, Nellie is going to be the perfect name for your new sweetie. She’ll pick you with guidance from Gracie. I am so excited for you.
Thank you everyone for the sweet comments regarding GracieDoodle. We still cry everyday and for some reason I have been think Gracie is here in the house. John is feeling the same way. But...we turn around and she is not there. It is just soooo hard. She owned our house and she is everywhere we turn. But...good news. Our new baby girl was born two weeks ago and we have 7 girls to pick from and we are first pick. We get to pick our our NellieDoodle next Friday and we bring her home on July 6! It is going to be hard finding the perfect puppy when there are 7 to choose from but between the two of us I think we will be able to find our new next LOVE! Thanks again for your love!
