Last night we had obedience class again. We had actually considered quitting the class, because we found it to be less helpful than it could be due to criticism and lack of motivation from the instructors. We did not quit, and went off to class last night. Toby was tired - he was groomed for the first time yesterday, and we took him early and let him run. If I may say so myself, Toby totally ROCKED OUT that class last night. I have never seen behave as well. My husband was watching from the sidelines, and kept thinking to himself - "That was awesome! When is he going to start acting up?" :) He never did! He was amazing. Before practising each skill, I reached down and patted him, and told him I KNEW he could do this stuff - just show THEM you can do it. He responded so well. I was very, very proud. I just wish our test had been last night. We would have passed with flying colours. The head instructor made a point of telling me that she was very impressed with how Toby responded last night. Yay Toby!

We went off to the dog park again today. Toby enjoys playing with all dogs his size or smaller, and cowers when the bigger dogs come over. My hubby wishes Toby would "man up" a little, but I think Toby is smart to know that he can come and sit with us when he is uncomfortable. He's only 8 months old - I'm sure over time he'll be braver.

Fantastic Sandy, see we knew he had it in him. All that hard work you guys have been putting in is now paying off. Perhaps he wanted to show off his new haircut by impressing everyone with his behaviour!!
Toby is the exact opposite of Hartley at the dog park, Hartley immediately seeks out the biggest dog there to play with, this has included a Great Dane and a Mastiff before!!

Congrats Toby!! Maybe a tired Toby has less energy and more pay attention power - I know that is the key for Samantha. When she hsn't had a chance to run she acts like she has never heard English before much less how to pay attention to me. So glad that you had a wonderful class!

Go, Toby! That's a great story. I think it was a great idea to let him run a little beforehand. And it could very well be that Toby will be a more mellow pup than a big time player - I know that our doodle Penny is that way. She's just a happy-go-lucky pup and loves to hang out. It will be fun to see how Toby changes as he ages.
