Hello everyone! What a friendly site! After reading some of the other blogs I see I am at the right place. Very cool! Getting my first doodle on the 18th. I want to do this right so I really could use advise! This is my first "large dog". If anyone could give me pointers on food- I was thinking of going with Prizm growth formula. How about vitamins and snacks??? What is best??? Any ideas??? Again thanks a bunch for the welcome...

Hi Jerri. Welcome and can't wait to see pic's of your doodle. Re the food thing-you should keep him or her on the food that your breeder has been giving for awhile and see how this goes. My F1 GD Thomas is now 11 mths old and we kept him on the breeders food until he was 8 mths old. It was called pro nature and I think is only avail in Canada. It was a "no wheat, no grain, no soy" puppy formula and it was working well. BUT it was hard to find and the only pet store that sold it was about a 20 min drive. He kind of started turning his nose up at it after 8 mths. so I went to our local pet food store and took home 4 different samples of food filling this same criteria. We decided to go with "Tase of the Wild". It is all natural-no wheat-no by products-no grain-no soy. Pretty much all meat. This has been going well for us-we add a little bit of wet to the kibble at dinnertime. Re the snacks or treats as we call them- if I were you I would find an all natural treat that has very few calories. We gave soooo many treats to our pup as a reward for training that he would not eat his dinner sometimes as he was to FULL. Even now-we believe in treats to reward his good behaviour, so we buy very low cal ones. He is probably 85 lbs. now so it has not stunted his growth!!

Welcome! As Adina said, the Food Group is awesome...come join. We have some very knowlegable members (not me really!) who help lead us on the right path.
I will give you some of our fave treats: Little Buddy biscuits by Cloudstar (great for training and healthy) and Zukes treats (also great for training). I know you are excited. The 18th is coming fast.

You are most welcome Jerri! Hope you enjoy it here on Doodle Kisses!
One suggestion, though...when you have questions for which you need members to chip in answers, your best bet is to ask in the forum. That is where you're likely to get the most responses...blogs (such as the one you just wrote here) are more like a journal or diary entry. Also since you have food questions, you might enjoy our Food Group--you can find it listed on our Groups page (see tabs at the top of any page). The Food Group is a WEALTH of info for anyone wanting to explore healthy foods for their doods.
