There Is Something In Your Dog That You Cannot Own

I came across this and really loved it. It's by Carol Lea Benjamin who wrote "Mother Knows Best - The Natural Way To Train Your Dog".

There is something in your dog that you cannot own - maybe it's the call of the wild. There is a dogness there you can only begin to admire, but, try as you will, you cannot possess or even fully understand it. Trained or not, he'll always be his own dog to a degree. He is yours to enjoy and care for. You can neither change his true nature nor keep him forever.

I thought of this with the discussion on our Doodles rolling in "smelly things". It's part of their "dogness". Any thoughts on other examples of "Doodle Dogness"?

I agree totally with the sniffing. Callie also will randomly lick things (picture frames, the walls), and I attribute that to her general "dogginess"
