So after not having any business travel for a few years, I finally convinced my DH to let me finally get a dog and we got Cubbie.  After Cubbie arrived I did a little more business travel but nothing terrible so I convinced my DH that is would be a really good idea to adopt a dog, enter Ollie. Well, since we have had Ollie (coming up on 2 months now) I have had to go out of town twice now.  So here I am sitting in a hotel in PA spending time on doodle kisses just to get my doodle fix since my fuzzy little guys are hundreds of miles away.

To prepare for my trip I made sure that I took care of all of the grooming stuff that needed to get done (complete brush outs, ear cleanings, nail grinding, teeth brushing, and trimming the long hairs around their eyes and beards).  I made sure that they had a new bag of food and left my DH detailed instructions about how much food each dog got, which medications were needed, and any other special issues that he needed to be aware of (i.e. don’t feed the dogs until you have the time to stay in the room for 5 minutes and watch them eat so that Ollie doesn’t eat Cubbie’s food.  I would’ve thought that one was self explanatory but learned that it wasn’t when he told me that he wasn’t sure how much food Cubbie ate the last time I was out of town…seriously?!?!).

When I was out of town last time, I entrusted my DH with the small task of taking Ollie back to the vet for his follow up visit for his ear infection.  I told my DH to make sure to get a box of heartworm pills for Ollie.  Surprise, Surprise.  I just received a text from my DH asking me if the dogs were just sharing a box of heartworm pills or if Ollie had his own box.  Now, I should have followed up and made sure that DH had actually accomplished the task, but I didn’t.  He took both dogs to daycare on Monday so that they could get some play time in and when I told him that they always need to be brushed out after a day of playing he assured me that they seemed to be ok.  That was Monday, I don’t go home until Friday (wish me luck that I don’t come home to 2 dogs that are full of mats)

Don’t get me wrong.  I love my husband and I LOVE my dogs, but I wonder if any of them know just how lucky they are to have me.  I am sure that we all have people in our lives who think that we spend too much time on DK or spend too much time/money on doodle related things, but they are lucky to have each and every one of us.  Although deep down I know that I am really the lucky one because I have been blessed enough to have Cubbie and Ollie in my life.

oh so true! DH can feed Cooper and the cats, but he never stays to watch the cats eat (one on kitten food, one on diet food and one on regular food) and he never adds in the "medicine" (enzymes, oil, apple cider vinegar) and he never gives them yummy added stuff (Natural Balance chubb, canned food, pumpkin). He does brush Cooper once Ive asked him for the 4th time, but he only brushes to outer fur (Coopers fur is 6 inches long) so she is still full of mats. Im the one who cleans and plucks her ears, cleans poop from her bum (though DH will get dingleberries but leaves the nasty stuff for me), I trim Coppers face fur, moisturize her paw pads..... the list goes on

to be fair, DH is the one who gets up early for potty and play! Well, we get up at the same time, but I hop in the shower when they go outside.....

When I go to visit my grandkids, I usually take one and leave one (dood) with the DH, who works at home. He assures me, it's fine, no problem.  I think she gets fed, not so sure about the salmon oil.  I think he combs her but there are always a few problem areas to deal with when I get back.  He said she didn't play at the dog park so stopped taking her. I hope he at least walked her. It's a little frustrating but the dogs seem really happy to see each other  (and me) when I get back.

Your post rings true in every way!  Last night, I said to DH "did you give heartworm and flea meds to dog". DH "what?"  Me "I asked you to the other day, they are always due on the 15th". DH " What? The 15th"???

Hello!  On the calendar!

And he doesn't have a clue how to whip up T's homecooked food. At least he helps feed them. It's hilarious though...

Funny you mention this, a couple of weeks ago we gave Huff a fortune cookie and the fortune said, Appreciate the loved ones around you - flowers are good.

Seriously, they are lucky doods. When I start making a list of all the things people would need to know to take care of Darwin, I realize just how spoiled he is! Of course our DH's are lucky too. I agree that they have figured out if they are slow or bad at something we will just do it for them. :-)

They do NOT know how lucky they are that they can sucker us into taking charge of all of these things. They know that if they wait long enough or are 'inept' enough we will take over, take charge, get it done....  Oh well, we are lucky to have them to love us.
