Timbow's turning into a man and I'm not happy about it!

We had Timbow neutered at 8 weeks and have been very pleased with that decision. He healed very quickly (you can't even see a scar), never lifts his leg to go potty, is extremely submissive/non aggressive, and has never humped anyone..until now!!!! My baby boy humped a beagle at the park today! I almost died! I don't even know if he knew what he was doing, since it was kind of a half-hump. I'm guessing he learned it from other dogs doing it to him (they normally run to him and mount..yes, even the tiny dogs). Maybe it's good that he's starting to "man up", but I don't want him to hump. I want him to be the sweet innocent baby that he's been for the past year of his life. I'm sure most of you think I'm crazy, but this is a first for us in the humping department. Thanks for letting me vent, he's my baby and I want this behavior to stop immediately.

Don't worry, all dogs do humping when playing. It is a sign of showing dominance and also girls do it.

Gracie has been known to hump certain dogs at the dogpark. And like Astro, once she gets this idea that dog is her target until we leave the park in embarrassment! Just a dominance thing....

Girls do it too :). Holly attempted to hump my 4 year old nephew whose rather small for his age. He thought she was giving him a hug so we went with that, but I know what she was really doing. We haven't seen her do it since then, thank goodness! I'm sure Timbow will get he hint if you let him know you don't like that behavior :). Good luck!

Molly is always humping Gus when they are outside romping around, he doesn't seem to care at all; he knows she's the boss and gladly accepts it. Gus has never humped, but he rarely gets a chance to be around other dogs. Because girls also do it, I don't think Timbow's humping has anything to do with his "sexuality". I'm thinking you should be proud that he finally found a pup he could stand up to!

Sorry to rat out Timbow's brother Astro :( I feel bad about that. But take comfort in that he is a normal dood that is still your baby.

It's definitely a dominance thing and not a "man thing"! The beagle probably did something that made Timbow want to assert himself. (And rightfully so, lol!)
I don't think it's going to become a regular behavior. Don't worry, Timbow's still your baby!

Porter is an early-neuter, very submissive dog...and he humps me when I dance (practicing for a show, class, playing wii). I posted about this several months ago. I think it is neither sexual nor dominant in this case, he just thinks I am doing some fantastic dog play (he'll bite my arm too). I stop dancing, he stops humping immediately.
Dogs, he doesn't hump all that often and it is clearly an "I am the boss" thing.

Judi - Timbow has just been seeing all the dogs at the park humping him and others and wanted to see what it was all about. He probably didn't even enjoy it. I'm cracking up though because OF COURSE it was a smaller dog he was messing with! Hopefully it will warm up enough for me to brave the dog park soon!

I cannot believe Allyson/Peri "sold me out". But it is true...our last dog park play date was humiliating. Astro picked a dog and just would not leave him alone. He does not do this to our friend Bear or his cousin doodle (Winston) and hasn't done the hump dance prior at the park. If he does it again...I might not be going back to the park again soon. Naughty doodle. Smile!
