Not looking forward to Tucker having time alone when school goes back this year. Many decisions to make....to crate or not to crate and just give him access to the ceramic kitchen and hallway. He will have 2 stints a day he will be alone and this will only happen 3 times a week...he will be alone Mondays,Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 until noon and then DH gets home for lunch....then he is alone from 1pm to 3 pm....then kids get home from school.I hope all will go well as he has been doing fantastic with his training....I hate to see us go 2 steps back.Oh to be a full time stay at home Mom to both kids and doodle....life would be great!!

Happy to report that Tucker has done fabulously with being alone in the days since school has gone back.He is one month being crated for a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon...this is 3 days a week and the 4th day DH is evenings so he only gets crated for 2 hours.I make sure he has a nice treat and a fav toy and he is quite content in his crate. Not one accident....so proud of by big gallute:):)
I am not a teacher,I am a RN that works in Informatics so I have a Monday to Friday job.My 2 teenage kids were always with Tucker when I wasnt home.
Ok....today went well.I decided to crate him...so he was crated at 8:30am and DH came home for lunch and he let him outside...he was crated again from 1pm to 3pm and the kids came home.He did awesome and wasnt stressed....**thumbs up** no accident and no stress....except on my part.I worried about him all day:( He was a good boy and I am proud of him.
I was reading through an earler post and see I put 14 weeks old as his age....he is 16 weeks old....I lost 2 weeks somewhere....lol.
Chester is a sweet boy Hazel...I cant get over how much our boys are alike(other than the fur part).I had no idea Maureen paper trained the litter...I just started making him go outside from the very beginning.
Anyway....no rest for the wicked...time to get the rest of my stuff in order before bed.I hate trying to organize things in the morning rush before work.
Cheers.
Chester isn't crated in the day when he is alone. He has access to a # of rooms -so he can sleep on the cooler floors (like Tucker.). He actually broke through his gate we had in the hallway then couldn't get back to access the water and food- so we said forget that.
My husband does come home at lunch. Chester has now been able to hold it until he is let out. But before he could- We had a designated spot for him to go on- with pads. (The breeder had paper trained him).
Sometimes he would go on the mats instead of letting us know that he needed to go out. I think we are now beyond that.. (knock on wood.).
He mostly sleeps during the day.. we have a camera set up. or he plays with his toys.
I wish I could be a stay at home doodle mom too.
I think that the crate is still a good idea, it's safe. Even if he's pretty trained, he's suddenly going to be alone. He will feel secure in the crate. Take baby steps with blocking a room off and ween him off the crate. That's what I would do!
We all want to be stay at home doodle moms-good luck!
I am a RN but I work for Informatics as an application specialist in the nursing modules...I dont have the summers off and I work 8-4.My 2 teenage children have been with Tucker since I went back to work from vacation....so that is why he hasnt beeen alone until now.He has rarely been left alone and when he was he wasnt crated....access only to thye kitchen and hallway. He did well most times he was left....he only peed in the house once when we left at 7:30 pm and didnt get home until after midnight....so in all fairness to him it was too long a time for how young he was.
I am leaning towards leaving him with kitchen access and see how he does....if it doesnt work out then we will have to go to the crate. We havent used the crate in weeks...Tucker minds the heat and we felt bad for him so we gave him more freedom so he can stretch out on the cool ceramic and relax....thats how he gained so much access at night.....and he never has an accident at night**knock wood** He goes 7-8 hours no problem. It has actually been quite some time since he has had an accident at all**knock wood again**
