Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So, Twinkie is 14.5 weeks and I have had her for 5.5 weeks. She has came a long way! She really is such a great dog. She listens really well, and learns tricks pretty fast. She potty trained so fast, which I still can't believe, she even barks at the door when she has to go! Recently we started going on morning walks/ jogs. Twinkie is a bit lazy, rambunctious, but lazy! lol. She will jog and keep up w/ me at first but then she just slooooows down, and refuses to speed back up. It is really funny. I have taught her to sit at the street so she waits to cross, which took some time but today she did it right when we approached! Good Job Twinkie!!! Next trick is to roll over, we will see how this goes. I will keep you all posted, any suggestions on how to initiate this would be great!!! :) Have a great week!

sorry it accidentaly added half the comment...lol
Once your dog is comfortable on its side..than bring the treat up so your dog is on its back...using the terms "Play Dead" or "Bang, Bang...etc. " When the dog is on its back tell them Good Job, and sometimes belly rubs as praise, I don't treat when they are on their backs because I don't want the dog to choke, so I will get them to go back on their side and than treat again. With Magnum we just used the treat and went side to back to side and told him Rolly Polly...now he just does it..lol.

If you go to places like Barnes and Nobles or your local pet stores, sometimes they have training books with how to train your dog to do certain tricks, the books can help a lot. We did this with my sons American Bulldog, but we tell him to do Rolly Polly and he goes side to side on his back, you can also use "Play Dead" or "Bang, Bang, Play Dead" ...
From a lying down position....
Teach your dog "over". (you can also use the command "bang, bang" or "play dead") or to teach "play dead", say "play dead", hold the treat to the left or right of the dog, and gently shove on the opposite shoulder and urge the dog to roll onto his or her side and relax. Treat immediately, we also give belly rubs and tell them good job. We use the term Rolly Polly ...

Actually it is recommended, for the sake of hips and joints (that are still developing) to NOT run/jog with a large breed dog until it is 18 months and all that stuff is done growing. Really. It's one thing for dogs to sprint and run on their own in play, but at this age you could cause some damage by prolonged jogging. If your dood did develop hip dysplasia you might even be making your breeder's health guarantee null and void by jogging with him at this age. So I would hold off until AT LEAST a year if not the full 18 months"

I am sure it is not the news you wanted to hear, but at least you won't be damaging your little pup!

I would look thru the forum about running/jogging with your pup. I seem to recall something to the effect it is not good for the puppy's bones to be running distances.....it might be bothering her to run so far? I may be wrong, but it doesn't hurt to check.

We are working on rollover too! We started physically rolling her over while saying "good rollover" and then a treat. She did it yesterday on her own! Peri is 16 weeks today.

Wow you have made rapid progress! "I saw atrainer teach a dog to turn over by holding a treat on one side of its head and moving the treat over the back of the dogs neck to the other side. the dogs head and body followed.
