Vacation

Before we went to Florida on vacation, we had 3 dogs who adored us. Now we have 3 strangers living with us.

Suzy is still sort of lovable towards us but she barked so much at the kennel that she's hoarse and her howling sounds like something similar to a diesel train. I'm like, "Where is that sound coming from? OMD, it's from our Suzy!".

Lexi is hoarse also but the way she's treating us is the most surprising. She's always been extremely devoted to me...my dog. Now she's indifferent to both of us. I'm heartbroken. Where's my good sweet old girl? She won't even sleep with us right now and she has always been at the end of the bed her whole life. Oh dear! Lexi is afraid of loud noises and thunderstorms. She always comes to her "Mama" for comfort during a storm. It thundered quite a bit two nights ago. Did Lexi come to me? No. She was still afraid but stuck it out without me. Ouch!

Then there's Penny. She's just outright peeved! And she is letting us know. She's very cunning. She is completely "working" us. She likes to fake us out. She'll come walking toward us and then right before she gets to us, she'll turn around and go the opposite direction. She knows this causes us distress. There have been no Doodle Hugs from her since we brought her home from the kennel. Yet, when a friend of mine came over the other day, she got a dozen (yes, 12!) Doodle Hugs. Penny knows exactly what she's doing with this, also. She knows it kills me that I'm getting no hugs. So hugs to another person is double the "pain". Penny won't play fetch. I throw the ball and she just gives me a very aloof look. Oh, how she is punishing us for kenneling her!

The kennel sent us pictures, daily, of the girls' play times via email. Even then Penny knew I'd be envious if she Doodle Hugged a kennel worker. Of course, every email, Penny was hugging someone. Oh, she's good!

We took 3 dog beds to the kennel and came home with none. They were all shredded. I'm sure Penny did this. I can't see my 10-year-old or 14-year-old shredding anything, so...

How long the girls will act like this is unknown. I'm hoping they have a short memory and that they will get back to their regular routine and their normal feelings towards us. Although, as smart as Penny is, I don't expect this to happen any
time soon!

Molly Rose was just the opposite! She had never been to a kennel until April. When she came home she was like a new dog... loved everyone and everything and couldn't get enough of us... Maybe that's exactly what she needed to appreciate us.. heehee

I hope this passes soon. I found a dog sitter who comes to the house and stays. I think it helps them not get so mad at us :) It is when the luggage comes out, that Fudge gets weird. LOL

This too shall pass!  The dogs are both hurt and mad and it seems they want to punish you.

Awh, that's good to hear. Happy Independence Day/weekend! Time to get out the Thundershirt, lol.

Barbie, we only have one Doodle: Penny. The other two are stray rescues (a beagle/basset and a lab mix). Penny is SLOWLY returning to normal. Neither one of us are being lavished with kisses and hugs but we're holding out hope... At least she's not be snobby anymore.

Oh, I'm glad you had a great time in Florida! Which city did you visit?

Awwh, I'm so sorry, Sally. I know it breaks your heart, but they'll come around. It's really odd that Annabelle ignored Amy for about 3 days because that's exactly how long it took my GR and Hercules to start giving me love again ... after I picked them up from their spay and neuter (same time, same clinic). Hopefully, you'll have all of your babies back in your arms by July 2nd, or sooner. :O)

Oh my goodness. I hope they come around soon. When Annabelle got one of her shots, it make her really sick and I imagine she was in pain. Since I am the one that took her to this awful place, she wanted nothing to do with me for 2 days. If I came anywhere near her,she growled and snapped at me. My husband was the only one she wanted to be with, I was so sad. On about the 3rd day, she came up and licked my hand when I set down her breakfast bowl. I cried happy tears.
