The other day I went out and got Fudge and Vern identical bones. Vern gets so excited with anything new for about two minutes. As soon as he figures out Fudge has a bone or toy or anything, that is what he wants. Fudge uses this to her advantage and loves to sit close to him and chew away. Fudge is not a big chewer, but I swear if she knows Vern wants something she has, she makes sure to chew it just a little longer than usual. Vern will stop chewing his bone and lay his head down in the most pitiful fashion and act completely disinterested. When Fudge is done and drops the bone, all of a sudden Vern will leap into the air and grab whatever she just dropped. It never seems to bother Fudge and it is like some unspoken language worked out between them. Fudge will just grab something else and walk around with it and as soon as Vern notices it, it starts again. I had two daughters, close in age, and sometimes with Fudge and Vern, I feel like I have lived all this before with the older sibling teasing the younger one for a reaction and the younger one so predictable in her reactions.

Here is Fudge with her treasure.

And here is Vern....pitiful, pitiful, Vern

Becky, Fudge outsmarts Vern too all the time. She does the same stuff and I swear she works to get him in trouble.

I swear Vannah and Raleigh do the same thing. However, Raleigh is not as polite and will usually steal Vanny's bone or chew toy. She will trick him though by becoming "interested" in something else, usually less-appealing, and then go for the more desirable object once Raleigh's becomed interested in the lesser-fun toy/bone. It is so  funny how different they can be, yet how close they are!

The not being allowed to crate them is the major difference as far as I can see. Otherwise doodles and kids have a lot in common.

I tolerate this game much better with Vern and Fudge, than I did with my daughters. In my daughter's case, it was usually accompanied by a loud, wailing 3 syllable Mom and that drove me nuts.  I always got mad at the one yelling the loudest. Plus, I wasn't allowed to crate them and leave the house :)

My daughter's two dogs play the very same "game" - fun to watch and wonder what's going on in their little doggie brains!!

So cute!  I love watching my daughter's dog and Trav play this game.  Unfortunately, they don't get together very often.  When Trav was a puppy, daughter's dog (Grendel) would carefully take one toy at a time from Trav's stash and carry it off to his own place.  He'd keep this up til he had ALL the toys.  Trav was so excited about having another dog around that he didn't notice what Gren was doing.  Different story now!

Vern is such a gentleman.  Big Murph just goes and takes whatever he wants away from Guinness....except when Guinness takes it and hides under the bed.....then Murph just lays there barking at him.

That's exactly what I was thinking....Vern and Fudge sound like my kids!   I also loved the way they acted when one of them got in trouble...the other one walked around like she was the "best" child to ever walk the face of the earth.

This is so funny, omd!!!  And yes - my children were the same way.

Vern and Fudge just know that life evens out one way or another.  Ned feels that it is all about him! His toys, his fuzzy balls, his bones, his world - except you can have his food, but only because he doesn't care...
