Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We brought Vern home on 3/27/10 and he is such a good puppy. He is, however, not a watchdog. Today, he spent half the morning growling and barking at his reflection in our fireplace window. If Fudge barks at something out the window, he runs in the opposite direction and only goes to investigate when he thinks the coast is clear. In puppy class, when they allow the puppies to play, he runs all around trying to find someone with treats in his or her pockets. Quite often, I have to wake him up in class to practice what we are learning. Some of the other puppy owners comment about what a calm puppy he is and I think to myself Fudge is in trouble when we get home. Sure enough, within minutes of arriving home he is pulling her ears, catapulting off the couch on top of her, and just this week the humping has begun. He seems to think my couch is a launching pad for his Fudge attacks. I should film this and show the class what my "calm dog" looks like when we get home. Almost every night, he sneaks into the closet and grabs my husband's Crocs and takes off like a bat out of hell to his bed with his treasure. I can't wait to find out what he weighs today at the Vet's office, because the boy can eat. We only crated him at night for about a week and now he sleeps all night on our bedroom floor and no accidents. Last night, after a busy day, he fell asleep at 8 and did not get up until 6 am. Pretty good for a pup. No complaints here. He is such a sweet boy!

He sounds so cute!! Wow, you are going to have a BIG BOY on your hands, Lilly was about 7 months old before she was in the 40lb range.

The other thing I forgot to blog was when the vet gave him the once over and opened his mouth, out popped a cotton ball. I have no idea how long he had it in his mouth or where he picked it up :)

I love this. For some reason we don't seem to get it, but instead of being clones of first doodles, second doodles just make up for whatever the first one isn't - good or bad. Ned and Clancy are pretty much opposites in EVERYTHING except wanting the same person's attention at the same time. And now that I have two, we also have WWE bouts with one addition - our old guy barks and carries on because he doesn't think all of this commotion is seemly or appropriate. He often physically stops the wrestling by bumping one of the contenders.

I laughed at all these comments. We just got back from the vet's office and he weighed 41 pounds and will be 4 months on 5/10/10. Three weeks ago he was 30 pounds. At this rate, I am going to have a 200 pound doodle. He spent the entire visit stalking the large picture they have of an owl on the wall. Apparently, it looked quite dangerous to Vern.

Vern sounds great , I can only hope that our next puppy is as calm as Jasper .

I really think it's a "second Doodle" thing. Murphy also lets Guinness take the lead when there's any thought of danger. If we're upstairs and there is a noise at the door, Guinness runs down to investigate while Murphy stands at the top stair and barks....he doesn't want to get too close. He's a big wimp....but he talks tough. That's so funny about sleeping through class....he needed to get rested up for the "Fudge attacks". I think it's great that he's picking Dad's crocs...much better than YOUR shoes. He sounds like a really great puppy.

LOL What a great story :-) Thanks for the laugh! I think you should make the video for the puppy class and post it for us to see to :-)

Vern is sweet and adorable!!! Don't spoil his image in class...just smugly say "yes, he's the BEST" because it's true!
