Wow, she sure settled in quickly. Ember is an absolute delight to me and everyone who meets her (and she knows it!).
After our first week with some weird digestion issues, all has cleared up and she is happy as can be. All looks good at the vet and she also got her 2nd set of shots. She was such a trooper while I managed to contain my anxiety at the sight of the needles.
Highlights:
- We started a puppy class at a local doggie daycare/boarding facility. The first night puppies stay at home and it's essentially owner education. I'm hooked. Ember gets to come with next week and I am excited for this. I may utilize the daycare portion too at some point since it's right by my work.
- Took a bath today and she was an angel. Now she smells great and is a little puff ball.
- She is meeting lots of new people and taking it all in stride. Since she isn't quite done with her puppy shots I've been limiting our outings, but we have tried some new things and she is energetic and excited about it all. She especially likes the elderly neighbors in my parents' neighborhood... she charms the heck out of them. She also likes the barista at our local coffee shop who had biscuits at the ready for her.
Lowlights:
- Still having a tough time with brushing. I need to get a different brush to try, I think. She finally let me brush her for about 5 minutes today when I gave her an extra special bone that I usually never let her have.
- Learned that if given the opportunity she will eat too fast and throw up. Also, if she plays too hard after eating, she will throw up. On the cream colored carpet. In my rental house. :) Thank goodness for the Bissell Green Machine!!!
- She irritates the heck out of my parents' dogs (who are older, 10 & 11 yrs). She actually bites their butts, which they do NOT appreciate.
Things we're working on:
- Walking on the leash! She grabs the leash portion that is closest to her and holds it in her mouth and then zig-zags all over the place.
- Picking up gravel stones... still.
- Puppy nipping/biting. Usually she's good with me, but with others or when she's overly excited... watch out. She's definitely a land shark.

Oh what a sweetie!
You can try a slow feed bowl this may slow her down?
Keep brushing her they say never let her win! We went through this with both of ours. Now Chloe lets us do whatever with her and Myla was tazmanian devil so I had to get a grooming table and after 3 years and a Les Pooches brush from doodlecountry we are finally doing better.
Myla is 3 and stil does that with her leash???!!!????? Good luck!
get some Natures Miracle or some other brand of special dog stain and odour remover from the pet store for the throw up! And limit exercise for 1/2 hour - 1 hour before and after mealtime to help reduce vomiting and bloat.
They find a way into our hearts super fast eh?!
