What kind of an investment will it take?

I am considering trying to groom Fozzy myself.....not everything at first, but the little stuff, like the beard, the sanitary areas, etc. Would I have to buy a table??? If so, how much are they? I have a hard time getting Fozzy to sit still long enough to trim his eyebrows. And how much would a good clipper and scissors run me?

Ya know what Chris, when I decided to tackle Lucy I had an old drop leaf table with the paint peeling off and that is what I used, after doing my first grooming job with her lying on the floor. Boy was that hard. She just made herself comfortable and let me do my thing. I then used that old table and it was great. I didn't have to put a leash on her or anything. She just stood there and looked out the door. I did it in my mud room. She got tired at times and I would let her get down and rest and then back at it again. I used scissors. Can't go too wrong with them. Have fun, and good luck

I got my grooming table from Jeffer's Pet (Clark actually got it for me as a Christmas gift a few years ago) and they tend to have sales around Christmas time...so you might hold out until you see those sales. It was a GREAT sale! Check out my review here: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum2/topics/2065244:Topic:22502

Others just use a regular table (maybe not your lovely dining room table) and place a nonskid mat on top. I've heard of one person who put the crate pan on top of the crate and groomed their dog there. Whatever works!

Some swear by 'fancy' shears but I've done fine with cheapo scissors from the supermarket or Wal Mart. Probably depends if you want to scissor cut the whole body or just the face. I only scissor cut the face and a few other minor places.

The biggest 'investment' I made was buying nice clippers and a few different blades and a set of blade combs as well as my Chris Christensen brush. Other than that nothing fancy here!

P.S. be sure to skim through the Grooming Group as they may have covered some of these things throughout the group.

my trainer suggested just putting them up on something helps. We put Neely up on a table in the garage and it did help the wiggling. He sat through the dremmeling really well. It also helped the back for us as well. I use a mens beard trimmer around the eyes ect. That way I don't put an eye out. Or install a new rectum. I find his laying across my knee is the way to go for the ear cleaning and plucking though. This is all just very new to me as well.

just mainly use scissors and I leash my dog to a doorknob to keep him relatively in one place. When he was younger I had gotten a metal leash to have a way of containing him upstairs when he needed settling down since I didn't have a crate upstairs and he routinely chewed through leashes if left to his own devices. I use this leash and he really doesn't mind the scissoring. I got the scissors on line for less than $10. I am thinking of putting a piece of plywood or something on top of the crate i now have upstairs for the puppy just to make things easier but I do all grooming myself with some help for dremeling nails.
