At first we thought we would do invisible fence .... That was a wasted $1200

Then we decided regular fencing would be safer ..... I'm embarrassed to say how much that was .....

Then we figured out that about 6-8 months of the year the yard was entirely too wet for them to get to play outside anyway.  After this Spring and our so many inches of rain above the normal rainfall that I completely lost count, mowing mud instead of grass, and months of the girls sitting and looking out the window, we embark on the next installment of the million dollar playground ......... installing drainage ditches and a sump pump well to get the water out!  Let's hope this works.  I also hope these doodles are still around to take care of me when I'm old because my nursing home fund is dwindling!

A Dry Yard for Happy Doodles ........ well, when we get there it will be PRICELESS!

Lucy and Sophie's mom, I figured out you already had the fence, but I was too lazy to delete my comment and start over...lol! I love that edit feature in the discussions. Your grass still looks very green even with two doodles...I guess that rain is good for something.

Good notes...thank you!  We are only planning to do the back, which is where we sit, grill, gaze into the woods, entertain, etc....

They will only be out there when we are out there.

Oh and your fence is beautiful. It's the one I wanted...but decided that would need to wait until I win the lottery or DH wins a massive case.

Egads. That's a lot of doodle love. But I'm sure you'll all enjoy it. What was wrong with the electronic fence? I was just thinking today about a hybrid. My yard is fenced but the driveway gate is a pain. Now that it is finally doodle proof the gate opener is once again acting up. It would be easy to put an electronic fence wire under the driveway since I had piping laid under the driveway when a line had to be dug for the well. I have a water hose running through one and could, I think, put a fence wire through the other. But then then dogs have to be trained and wear collars. It goes on...

Those doodles are so patient!!! We had the same issues we had a fence put up but then we had to seed a bunch of stuff so it took a long while before they can run around. Myla would stay out there all day if you let her but we are always out there with them.

Donna - I think what you just wrote would be a great saying for a DK Tee shirt!

Laurie --- We've had the fence for about a year and a half now, it is just that is stays so wet and muddy they still didn't get much outdoor time.

Allyson -- The one other mistake I made with the Invisible fence is that because it wasn't the wire that was expensive, but rather the system itself, I had them do the whole lot .... big mistake.  I was constantly having to chance them from the front yard to the back yard and when I wanted them inside and they didn't want to come they had way too much room to get away.  In hind site I should have only done the back yard and maybe not even the entire back yard.

Wow!  When you're old and poor, at least you'll have your doodles!

I know all about the cost of fencing. We did a real fence out back and around front we gated our driveway and put deer fencing around the perimeter....none of it was cheap. We have a stone wall that goes down our long driveway and the fence guy asked about that part and we told him the dogs have shown no interest in jumping the wall and it should suffice. WRONG. The first week, Vern (not my thinker dog) jumped the wall....Fudge quickly followed, so my DH concocted some Jed Clampett type of fencing out of buckets, cement, and more deer fencing. We now have to consider the invisible fence on that side of the driveway and meanwhile, an animal chewed a hole in the deer fencing and now that has to be reinforced. Maybe I should have gotten Labrahamsters....LOL. Your yard is big and beautiful. You will love having a fence.
