Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So, Monday is over, and I still haven't heard a word from the Shelter about MY Izzy. I've been obsessing all day....carrying the Blackberry around the house so I would know the minute the email came in. Her bed is sitting here empty, and the hot pink collar has no beautiful little girl attached. Her empty dish is sitting in the closet...no home cooked food. Of course, my imagination is taking over, and I'm envisioning Guinness and Izzy running and playing and cuddling up together. I know, but it's a vision, so it doesn't have to be realistic. I've started to wonder what she'll be like. Guinness is such a "guy". He just acts like a male. I wonder if she'll act like a little girl. In the past we had two males (a Golden and a Lab), and they were totally "guy's guys". They were rough and tough....could eat anything and were happiest when they had rolled in some sort of manure. They hated baths or grooming of any kind. Then we got our Dalmatian, and she was a little lady. There was nothing rough and tough about her. Yes, my imagination is totally stereotyping which is completely not my style. I'm not sure where that is coming from. Anyway, I've been thinking about gender characteristic differences among our dogs. I wonder....

Well, that makes three of us (at least) who have logged in to check on the status of Izzy. You must be going nutz!!! It sure does seem strange that you are trying to do such a good deed and have all this love to give little Izzy and the people are making it so hard for you. You would think they would be delighted to have someone who wants her as much as you do. Keep the e-mails going!!!

Like Nancy, I logged on too to check the status of Izzy. I am sorry to hear you are still waiting for some news.

The rescue is Double Dog Rescue. They pull their dogs from the South...apparently mostly TN. They have a pretty active Facebook site. Here it is. I could actually post something, but I really don't want to do anything that could be embarrassing to the foster volunteer.

There actually is no physical "Shelter". The organization is run by two women and Foster volunteers who rescue dogs from high kill shelters. There is no phone number anywhere. Everything is done via email with the person who is assigned to the dog you are interested in. It appears to be very informal, which makes it difficult to know how to escalate my inquiry.

Hi Jane, can you contact the department of the shelter that handles the adoption...sometimes if you bug them on a regular basis they see how interested you are, call or go to the shelter if its in your area. If no satisfaction would contact the President of your local shelter where the dog is.

Yes, I know my Vet VERY well. I'll call them tomorrow morning to see if there was an inquiry. It's all so strange. I know the Foster Mom really loves Izzy, and so now I'm thinking she may want to keep her. I guess it's possible she hasn't decided yet, and that is why there's a delay. I really can't think of another reason. Has anyone else experienced this type of delay when applying for a rescue? There is nothing that I can think of that would make them doubt our qualifications. Actually, they haven't even talked to us to know one way or another, other than the emails.

Do you know your vet well enough to inquire as to if they have called for a reference on you?

Wish you would hear something soon - we are thinking of you!

Just got home, and no email or phone call from the Shelter. I sent another follow-up email asking for a status. I just don't understand what could be taking so long. I wish they would at least update me on the process. Her posting is still there, so I don't think anyone else has adopted her. I don't get it. They must want these dogs to be adopted, but they are not making it easy.

This is my afternoon to volunteer at the Hospital....no Blackberry allowed. I'll be going crazy!
