So it has now been 34 hours with Mojo in my care... he is settling in SO WELL. I am so impressed. I think taking on a pup the is close in age to Sammy was a great idea and I am so happy that the breeder was able to hear what I was looking for and come up with this wonderful guardian home match for us. I feel so lucky that we now have this second wonderful dog!

Hmmm... how do you add photos to blogs? Clearly I used to know how, but I don't see a way to do it here.

Anyway -- the first day I kept him (and Sam) crated to a portion of the downstairs because I wasn't sure about introducing him to the whole house... but Sam clearly was annoyed at the change in routine last night and then Mojo also foiled my gate system and got upstairs on his own a few times (he is such a curious dood... Sam never tried some of the stuff this guy has tried) so today we went for a guided tour of the house with Mojo on a lead (mostly because his recall is terrible and I didn't want to have to chase him out of an area or room if needed...

Last night someone... both of them? whined and howled a bit when crated for the night because they could hear me upstairs trying to get my wound up 3 year old son settled in... once I crawled into bed and all was quiet, so were the doods. I also felt like Mojo kept checking out his crate but then running out of it again... sort of like her was worried I would lock him in unexpectedly. So I am trying to leave them open and let him know that I will always announce crate time and usually offer treats as well (like if we are leaving the house for a short time). I don't want him to think I will sneak up on him and lock him in. So hopefully it is working -- he just went in there voluntarily and is snoozing. Like Sam, he seems to prefer the plastic crate floor instead of the nice blanket we put in there... they both shove the blankets to the corner so they can sleep on the plastic.

There has been more alpha type play (at least it seems like it from what little I know -- each one trying to pin the other down or flip the other one over) and Sam seems to be coming out on top so to speak... which is fine, he is bigger, here first and technically a few months older -- but Mojo holds his own -- steals toys, runs faster, and seems pretty unphased by being pounced on. I am working on the best phrase/command for getting them to cut it out int he house. "Knock it off" seems to work OK and roll off my tongue easily... and "take it outside" elicits both doods running to the back door and then bolting out once I open it... too funny. Then later Sam realizes "hey I don't like being outside" and comes back to the door trying to look pathetic... too funny. Mojo seems to love it in the back yard. We have lots of joggers and walkers that go by as our back yard faces a main road (well... sort of main road... in a tiny town) so he seems to like to watch the traffic go by and the people and listen to the neighborhood. Sam always just wants to come back in and flop on the floor by your feet.

I think it is just awesome that they both have such different personalities -- this is exactly why I wanted a second dog... because I read all these great stories on DK about your dogs or talk to my friends and then I just have this 1 dog... our first dog (Sam) and just no reference point really as to what other possibilities are out there... and of course, I don't want to wish Sam away or wait 14 years until... well, you know. So, having Mojo is just great fun (for Sam, and the kids and for me) because we get this whole new personality in the family.

OK -- well I have rambled on enough. Please remind me how to do pictures in blogs! I posted them in my group messages... so you can track them down that way if you are reading this and wanting pictures... sorry I can't figure it out at the moment!

I enjoyed reading your post Jennifer..

It sounds like Sam and Mojo are learning to get along with one another...and that Sam is teaching his little brother the ropes!!  Lol

Like Jane...it makes me long for another Doodle in the house!

Since that isn't possible at the moment...I will enjoy reading all about  "The Adventures of Sam and Mojo"!

I can't wait to see the pics you post Jen...

Enjoy the new addition to your famiy!

I know that you will...

Sounds like the 2 of them are getting along.  As for adding pictures to a blog.  There is a little picture icon second from the left just above the body section of your blog.
