We have had Luna for 9 months now, and I do a lot of work from home at my computer. Doing work from home with a puppy can be very distracting, but I am also very thankful that Luna is (generally) a well-mannered puppy. These are some observations/reflections I have about working from home with our little pup. I will be working more outside of the home starting in about a month, so I will miss a lot of this!
Distractions
- Licking, chewing and pawing at my feet after a nap
- Sitting/lying on my computer's powerbar (which is now protected with a plastic box cover, since she has shut down my computer 2-3 times)
- Random bored whining and Wookie noises
- Barking at kids/dogs outside
- Noisily playing with her plastic bottle (one of her favorite toys - a big Clamato bottle... highly recommended as one of the toughest plastic bottles you can find)
- Occasionally chewing something she's not supposed to (carpet, stray socks, stuffed toys that are not hers)
Things that make me proud
- If I ignore her above distractions, she will eventually settle down and sleep somewhere in the house
- She will "ask" for me to play with her, and if I ignore her advances she finds a toy and plays by herself
- She has NEVER chewed a piece of furniture, even when she was very little
- She does not bug me to go outside, even though I'm sure it's much more interesting than inside
Cute things I will miss not working from home
- Puppy waking up from a nap, only to realize I'm home and "greeting" me with wags and kisses (even though I've been here the whole time...)
- Morning cuddles watching TV after Luna eats breakfast (this morning it was "Puppy SOS", which involved less cuddling and more standing on the TV stand to try to say hi to the puppies on the TV)
- Late morning walks through the park where Luna can be socialized with small children and babies
I will still get little bits of this in my new career, but not as much as I have enjoyed for the last 9 months. I am savoring it while it lasts!
