National Geographics Travelers Magazine has selected Newfoundland's Avalon Penisula as its top rated coastal destination.

The magazine's November issue says the peninsula, the easternmost point in North America, is a "blustery realm" that is home to "brightly painted fishing villages and the lively city of St. John's."

The magazine says visiting the Avalon is "like going back in time — close-knit communities, a strong local culture reflected in music and art, and unspoiled scenery."

Yahoo, this is my neighbourhood where most of my pictures are taken. I've always thought it was a great place and now National Geographic does too. The reason I am so happy is because Newfoundland util recently was always the poorest of the canadian provinces and was often looked down on by the rest of Canada. I probably should have posted this in Nothing to do With Doodles but it is too much work to do this over.

Hi Donna, I have always know that NFLD is the crown jewel of Canada. Aside from the shear beauty and friendliness of the people, you will never meet a more generous group; even those who don't have much to give, give all that they have. The American's owe a great debt to the wonderful people of NFLD due to the aid they provided and all of the citizens they fed and housed from the grounded planes during 9-11.

Oh, I can just see it on the covers of the tourist and travel guides. Quincy can be the town spoksman. I guarantee that if someone were to see him on a brochure or travel guide, they would jump at the chance to come for a visit. Only problem...everyone would insist that they meet Quincy or he greet them...ha ha. After looking at all you photos of the months and now reading this. I have told my husband that I would love to travel there. I had asked my son how far from Boston since we go visit him a lot there. I think it could be a side trip but unfortunately, without Gracie Doodle. She has to stay in California..:(

Hi Karen, Labrador is actually a part of Newfoundland and the correct name for our province is actually Newfoundland and Labrador, they changed it offically a few years ago. I just call it Newfoundland, old habits die hard.

What beautiful photos!! I have family in NF and used to visit every summer as a child! Now I have my own family and we haven't been back in years. Hopefully next summer. I agree that it feels like 'going back in time'.. there are no friendlier people than newfoundlanders! (I live in Fort Mac, 'capital of NF' haha!)

What a gorgeous place to live, and of course, the perfect place for a doodle! (Contrary to their names, Labrador Retrievers originated in Newfoundland!)

It is so gorgeous, I can tell that from these photos, and also your photos of Quincy. Lucky you for living there!

The landscape is indeed gorgeous, but the Travel and Tourism board should include pictures of Quincy - he's so cute that he'd bring in tourists!!!!
