Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Just a little history – I was adopted by a wonderful family in October 2012. I have a Mom and a Dad who love to play with me and a big brother named Charlie Brown – I guess because he is brown! Charlie Brown apparently was one special Dood because my mom and dad compared me to him for weeks on end. I would hear little things like, “I don’t think Beau is as smart as Charlie B was at that age”; “Beau is not as coordinated that is for sure –when he tries to catch a ball he jumps in the air like a baby elephant with all four legs in the air – too funny”; “Beau just doesn’t seem to get it” and on and on! The first time my mom picked me up from the groomer, I heard the groomer say to my mom, “if this boy was a girl, he would be a blonde! I did not get that one at all! And all the while, I was quietly thinking, “they don’t know Beau”!
As time went on, I turned the charm on and I could tell my mom and dad were getting to know me because I would hear my mom tell my dad little things like: “Beau is the sweetest little boy”; “Beau is so comical and he makes me giggle”; “Beau is self-assured and such a happy dood and so much fun to take for a walk”; “Beau is a very good boy and getting smarter by the day”; and “he is a great addition to our family!”
At 6 months old, my mom told me I was going to a formal puppy class (she had been teaching me on her own at home since I was a baby). The first class we could get into started on Mar 26th and I was 7 mos. old. I did not know what to expect, but about 20 minutes into the first class, I was exhausted and I had to flop on the floor and take a break!
The teacher told my mom to just let me take a break – my brain was on overload. That was an understatement! So, my mom sat on the floor next to me and I slept for 10 minutes and then I popped up and was ready to go play with those other puppies! But that was not going to happen, I had to stay right by mom and follow her around the ring! I think I did really good because my Mom told me so. After the class I got to play with the other puppies and my favorite was RJ the Mastiff who was way older than me and weight over 100 lbs!! I really love him!
We went to obedience once a week for eight weeks and Mom and I practiced every day for 10 minutes and sometimes on our walks. The day of the All Star Puppy Test, I passed with flying colors – my mom shouted “yes, Beau, you did it.!” My teacher asked my mom and RJ’s mom to stay after class and then suggested that they take us through the CGC testing which would start shortly. My mom took me around the block for a quick walk and then we went back to the ring and when the CGC evaluator called out Beauregard – I took off beside my Mom like I really knew what I was doing. Guess what - I passed! So I earned my CGC certification too!
Now if my Mom will just cut off some of the hair around my eyes ~ I will be able to catch a ball just like my "big brother" does. By the way, my big brother is now about 3 inches shorter than I am!
