I'm curious. I've seen some doodles who have pink noses with black around the edges. I've also seen pure labrador & golden retrievers with noses that started out black & turned pink/rose. So, do doodle noses change color over time too? What do you guys think?
And here's another, this one mentions Labs & Goldens:
depigmentation
removal of pigment; usually refers to melanin. See also hypopigmentation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
nasal depigmentation
occurs in dogs with a normal, darkly pigmented nasal planum at birth which later fades to brown or a pale gray-white. Called also Dudley nose, the cause is unknown, but it may be a form of vitiligo. A seasonal loss of pigmentation, usually during winter months, occurs in some breeds, including Siberian huskies, Golden retrievers, Labrador retrievers and Bernese mountain dogs. Called also snow nose.
Depigmentation (Dudley Nose).
Penny's nose changed from black to a pinkish color. She uses metal bowls for food and water. I asked the vet last year at her checkup and she said that some dog's noses just change color. Her lips are still black!
Lucy has been turning from jet black to a lighter brown... wondering what this is, so I'm glad to see I'm not the first to ask!
She spends a lot of time digging in the snow- so I love the name "Snow Nose"! I thought maybe it was because she's "maturing" into a 2 year old. Interesting comment about vitamin E. What about D if not enough sunlight?
