Hi guys,
So I transitioned Duncan from his puppy food (that he had been eating since I got him) Nutro Puppy to Blue Buffalo adult food. He seems to enjoy it the same. But I noticed that he will have a super lumpy firm "struggle" poop and then a very loose poop right after. This will happen multiple times during the course of the day. It's a weird cycle. Totally not what is normal for him. He used to just have the perfect poop (i know sounds kind of ridiculous) I wonder if this is due to the higher protein content. I think Nutro had more fiberous stuff. Or just the switch to a new food. It's been about a week now. Maybe it just takes more time. Sigh. I miss his predictability:) He's full of energy and playful etc so I don't think he's really feeling sick.
Sally, I fed Nutro for many years, and yes, Jack's poop was wonderful...small, firm, as perfect as poop can be. But Nutro is a lousy food, and has lots of fillers and junk in it. Since we switched to a high quality diet, no matter what Jack eats, the days of the nice Nutro poop are over.
Duncan is not sick, and the higher protein in the new food is not causing the problem. (In fact, since Jack has been on grain-free, very high protein foods, his poop has gotten firmer again.) Nutro contains beet pulp, which contributes to the nice poop but is not a very good ingredient; the Blue Buffalo uses healthier forms of fiber. Duncan's system just needs more time to adjust to the change in nutrients. A week is not very long, I would give it more time. I know it's nice to have those Nutro poops, but it's not nice to have the menadione, ethoxyquin, and other harmful ingredients that go with it. Hang in there.
Hi, my puppy Achilles started the Brand Blue, on the advice of a friend. I was searching on the food discussions to see what people think of it. Now that Duncan has been on it for awhile, what do you think of it? So far Achilles is doing fine. It's only been a few days.
it took about 2-3 weeks for him to get adjusted but now he's great! and he loves it too. I'm am very comfortable with this brand. And it seems to be on sale at petco pretty frequently for a couple of dollars off.
Echoing others, it will get a little better with time. But, Peri still has some not-so-firm poos. I am not worried about her digestion - I know I have her on very high quality food and the poos just are not hard as a rock. Don't worry.
