I absolutely love holding Noah like a baby.  He's 24lbs and I really have no reason to carry him around, but I can't resist it.  He just melts into my arms and goes completely limp.  Any excuse I get, I pick him up lol.  We've been visiting the nursing home for the past 2 months as a therapy team and at the end of each visit, as we ride the elevator down to the lobby, as long as no one else is in the elevator with us, I pick up Noah and cuddle him and tell him what a wonderful boy he is.  I was thinking the other day how sad it must be for parents when their kids start becoming very independent and no longer want them around... I can't imagine how sad I would be if one day my dogs were embarrassed to have me with them!!!

Jackdoodle is too big to hold, and my daughter is very sad about that. She always "shlepped' our last dog around in her arms. The next dog we get is going to have to be small enough to pick up and hold on our laps. I miss that, too.
On the plus side, it's really nice to snuggle up in bed with Jack. Better than an electric blanket!
My Gracie Doodle is a bit too big to be on my lap though she does walk up to me when I am sitting and leans into my knees so she has her entire body (chest & tummy) resting across my lap. I do love though putting my arms around her like a person and hugging her. It is impossible to get out of bed in the morning when she comes up to snuggle. She wants to stay in bed all morning and I do to!! I love that we can spoon and I can put my arms around her. Or I can lay down on the floor and use her as a pillow! She is a substantial dog who is warm, soft and loving. I just can't get enough of her and want to put my arms around her and squeeze her!!!! ha ha
Darwin is much too big to carry but I love cuddling with him. he will come and flop down on my lap when I sit on the couch. It's so adorable to have his head resting on my leg and him staring at me adoringly. It's the one of the best things about dogs in my opinion!
All 38 pounds and we still try and cradle her sometimes. I used to just LOVE big dogs. The bigger, the better, but now I love being able to hold her. And as for the kids..... It's independence is a sad thing. Mine are 12 and 16 and I still cuddle them (and they love it too). I'd still pick them up too----- if I could! LOL
Last summer we took the girls to "Bark in the Park" at the Cincinnati Red's Game. For some reason Sophie wanted to sit on my lap during the game (maybe she couldn't see). Everyone around us was laughing at me with this 50 lb dog sitting on my lap! I now have the T-shirt .....

too funny!
I love your story... Even though Cagney was a pretty good size we couldn't resist picking him up...now he is way to big but he is soooo loving... he has to have constant hugs,,,kisses... anywhere and everywhere... what would these Doodles do without love.... they are the epitomy of love!
At 23 lbs we are still very able to pick up and hold Chewie. I often sit on the floor and cradle him like a baby and yes, he does kind of go limp. I think the funniest is when we pick him up like a toddler...back legs hanging down and front legs over our shoulder. It looks like we're carrying a very furry kid around.
Guinness loves to cuddle, but doesn't really like me to carry him. Sometimes I think he has a "little dog" complex and wants to act like the big guys. He's only 16 pounds so it would be really easy to tote him around, but it's just not his thing. He actually seems embarrassed when I do it in public. As for the kids, they want you "when they want you", e.g. sick, needing money, hungry, "dumped" by their boyfriend/girlfriend, borrowing your clothes (daughters only), and now babysitting. No matter how independent they act, I know it's only temporary and I always know they'll be back...thank goodness!
Wrigley is way to big for me to pick up, but as soon as I get home every day I sit indian style on the floor or the couch, and she just tries to fit her entire body into my lap. I just love it!
The thing I love the most about Caper is that I KNOW he loves me! He is an absolute mush & at this point he is 32 lbs...so I do hold him everyday, because I won't be able to soon enough. When he hears me coming down the stairs in the morning he will growl his greeting to me & he practically dances he's so excited...all this & he sleeps in my room all night!
Jane, let me put your mind at ease....Ali is 18 and Kyle is now 11. BOTH still love to cuddle and are not embarassed at all to show us how much they love us---even in public! LOL

Gaston-Cramer just follows suit! He not only loves to be held but expects it! Here he is at Scott's office. GC goes to the office quite alot during the week with Dad to hang out. This is their favorite pastime! Can't say Scott can get much done when GC wants his snuggle time but neither look worse for wear!
