Today while I was doing stuff around the house, I was talking to my two dogs like they were human...I was complaining about the mess that was in the den, and I suddenly realized that I was talking to my dogs, lol...Like they were going to answer me???..They follow me around and I swear when I talk to them they listen, and understand what I am saying...Am I the only one who does this? I have always done this with all our dogs, and I guess I am too old to change...But maybe the men in the white coats will come and get me..., lol
Matt and I do this ALL of the time! We've come up with a lick system so she can respond, one for no, two or more for yes. For example: "Holly, do you agree?" Then we stick out our hand :).
Haha, I doubt you're the only one... My neighbor was laughing at me when my doodle was barking because I said "hey hey, Ellie, we had a conversation about your barking." I guess we're all "crazy".
I would bet 99% of us on this site talk to their doods! I talk to T and Peri all the time. DH does also. They do listen when they want to.
I think the craziest thing is how they know when i am upset. Even if I am just a little down, they must hear it in my voice or in my behavior, because they do not move from beside me. And Peri gives me kisses :) And I just say "thank you soooo much".
You are SO not alone. Not only do I converse with Callie like she is going to answer me, but I ask her opinions on stuff (she tends to play it close to the chest though). Once, about two months ago, I was talking to my mom on a Sunday morning and she asked "What are you doing?", My reply was "We just cleaned out the bookshelves". My mom, knowing that I had just broken up with my boyfriend, asked in a bewildered tone "Who is 'we'? I thought you and Craig broke up!" I had to embarrassedly explain that the "we" was me and Callie, not that Callie was really doing anything but hanging out and looking cute. My family thinks I'm crazy. I'm pretty ok with that.
Nope I do this too! And they do listen. Both of mine look right at me and one of them even cocks her head to the side like she's really listening intently. So yeah, I might get taken away too, but I bet we won't be alone.
I talk to Sadie as if she were another person-and she always seems interested in what I am saying. When she recognizes a word she gives me a little head tilt of encouragement! But, she is great at sensing moods in people, and always very sweet if someone is sad...
