Friendly Doodles Temperament Discussion in Ontario

Hi

    We are interested in labra/golden doodles. We're a family of 5, with 3 daughters 9 - 15. We'd like a doodle that is a happy, easy going participant in our daily lives, with no dominance or aggression issues. We're curious to know if anyone finds any difference in temperaments from size to size, from chocolate to cream or from lab to golden? And certainly if anyone has any recommendations, or otherwise regarding breeders please contact us directly.

I can only speak for goldens... Murphy has been fired from the position of guard dog! He loves everyone. Retrievers tend to be people pleasers. The goldens tend to get along well with other dogs also, I have seen a few labs that have trouble socializing. But those things are usually a result of lack of exposure. As long as you plan on having a two year old in you house for the next couple of years, put the time and energy into training you can't go wrong.

I don't think temperament is dependent upon size or color. Labradoodles are generally super friendly and easy to train, but I have no doubt that if you did not socialize one, or if you didn't consistently train it you could very well end up with a dog that is not a good canine citizen.

Beck is a chocolate F1B and at 1 year he is a delightful, happy, mellow dog who loves people and other dogs, but I have worked with him every day since he was 8 weeks old on training and on socialization, and even before I got him the breeder spent a good deal of time with him and the other pups on socialization, bite inhibition, and crate training.

Hi, I know this is an old forum but we (myself, husband, 6 year old daughter and cat) are in the process of trying to buy a F1B Goldendoodle as our family dog. Right now we are looking at breeders in Ontario (near Burlington where my in-laws live) and The Maritimes (we are in Newfoundland.) I have visited the owner recommended forum here but there a very few breeders listed. If you have wonderful breeder info that you would be willing to share could you drop me a message.  I've always had Labs and this is my first Doodle so I'm a bit out of water.
