Hi everyone, Can anyone recommend a good car harness for my standard goldendoodle. We will be travelling 3.5 hours each way to the cottage every weekend come summer and I want to make sure he is safe and comfortable. He is an awesome traveller and lies down in the back of our small SUV. Thanks in advance!
For the last several months, in the pet supplies they have car harnesses for $5.00. This type is just a safety belt that hooks directly into the car safety belt and then converts into a leash when the ride is over. If you decide you don't like this type, you at least have an extra leash when you need an extra one and no money lost.
Wow, that is a deal! Unfortunately we don't have that store in Canada. Although we live close to the border, it looks like the nearest one in Michigan is 65 miles away :( Thanks for the tip though Joanne!
Sure, if I go out in this weekend, I will check and see who manufactures the product--but I will guess China :( I will try and get the info for you.
I think they are asking way to much money for the harness at Pets Stores. You may want to look online.
Do a search here on DK. I know this subject was brought up a few times before and possibly someone made recommendations in older posts.
You definitely need to do some research. My husband designed crash simulations for one of the major auto companies and what is important for your doodle and you is that the harness is crash tested. I bought mine from Drs Foster and Smith but only after I checked out the manufacturer had tested it. A google search on the harness you are considering should give you this information. If you don't find test results, pass on to another.
I use the harness and also the one that is a leash that straps in like Joanne is talking about....I like the leash one more snaps right in and very easy to use,,,,I give it a two thumbs up!
I am soooo glad to see this question. Car harnesses are very important and so many people don't go to the extra effort to buy and use them. I work with a group that trains assistive dogs for people with disabilities. The head of the group, Jen, is adament about all dogs having tethers. I, personally, like the EZ Rider because it's so easy to use. The front padding seem to make it comfortable. It's also very useful to have a clip that goes into the seatbelt. Then, all you have to do is clip the tether to the harness. It's just 1 snap and you're done. It makes it a lot more conducive to using it all the time.
