Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone. I just joined doodle kisses and currently have a healthy doodle (fingers crossed). I did lose my first doodle to severe epilepsy. If anyone is dealing with seizures in their doodles and looking for support and someone to talk to, please email. I have been there and understand what you are going through!

Firstly - THANKS to you Andy & Sharon I found this fantastic forum with so much usefull info and supportive people. We have a very good Vet here (in Australia), who believes many dogs are overmedicated and therefore cancer and other diseases kill them at an early age. I agree. He put Jasper onto REVOLUTION and DRONTAL, instead of Frontline and Heartguard etc.
I keep a seizure Diary. His seizures are in no connection with the DRONTAL, yearly injection or REVOLUTION
which protects him from Heartworm, Earmites, Fleas etc., BUT HAS NO TICK PROTECTION!!!!
As we only take Jasper to the beach and not the bush, we are avoiding tick contact and therefore one less chemical in his system.
First round of blood work - blood sugar was low. Heartworm & Lyme - negative. Phenobarb level - OK. They need to re do liver function tests.

Last night went back to vet. Blood sugar is normal, on low side, but within normal range. Blood pressure fine. No problem getting blood. He is re doing bloodwork.

Vet said that Matiner looked totally different from last time. He was much more alert and looked much better.
I'm glad Mariner is doing better!
Hi all... I am an old member who is returning to DK after taking a break for a while, and sadly my first post is to say that Quinn has been diagnosed with epilepsy. He had two grand mal seizures--easily the scariest thing I've ever seen, the first time I thought he was choking to death--and after an MRI and a lot of other testing, the neurologist went with epilepsy.

We're of course relieved that it's not a brain tumor or anything like that, but still sad that this is will be something Quinn deals with for the rest of his life. He started on a twice daily dosage of zonisamide last week, and knock wood we have not seen any side effects yet. Just wanted to say that I am finding this group incredibly helpful already.
I'm sorry to hear that Quinn has epilepsy, Amanda, but I'm glad you're back & finding some support here. I hope that Quinn does well with his meds and you have a peaceful holiday.
Please go to the Seizure Group.
