Somebody named him Dublin. Maybe they were hoping that the "luck of the Irish" would grace him along with the name. But it didn't, not by a long shot.
Dublin was an adorable puppy like any other doodle puppy...like yours, maybe. He was purchased somewhere by someone with the best intentions of loving him and taking care of him.
But Dublin's owner had some bad luck of her own, and maybe made some bad choices, and poor Dublin had no choice at all. He ended up in an abusive situation, with no vet care of any kind, and no way to protect himself.
Dublin's owner had to get out of the abusive situation, too, and she couldn't take Dublin with her. But she loved him enough to try to find a safe place for him.
It wasn't easy.
Dublin is five years old. He is big and black, and in spite of his fluffy coat, he sheds. He isn't neutered and hasn't had any vet care in years. He had fleas, infections in both ears, and open sores. He has a severe infection from untreated lacerations to his legs which were caused by abuse from a human or another dog.
And he's losing his eyesight.
Dublin has a cataract in one eye, and is developing one in the other eye. This is a congenital condition which will lead to total blindness if it isn't surgically corrected. You don't even want to know how many thousands of dollars the surgery costs.
With shame, I must tell you that I didn't think we should take him. We are drowning in homeless doodles, and we have Matt, with his sarcoptic mange and heartworm treatment to cover. Fortunately for Dublin, the decision wasn't mine. And there really wasn't any decision to make, when you get down to it. There was nowhere else for him to go. A shelter would have euthanized him on the spot, and none of the other rescues would take him.
Dublin is now in a DRC foster home; he has been treated for fleas and is taking several different antibiotics for his infections. He will be seeing a specialist for his eyes. And his foster mom says he is the biggest sweetheart in the world. As cruel as life has been to Dublin, Dublin still loves life, and he still loves people. He is housebroken, a perfect gentleman in his foster home, and is kind and gentle with every living creature he encounters. He is so grateful for any love and attention he gets. He may have multiple medical issues, but there's not a thing wrong with Dublin's great big doodle heart.
Maybe a little bit of that luck of the Irish did come with his name after all. Maybe you can help us make sure Dublin's luck is finally changing.
If you can help the DRC help Dublin, please use the Paypal "chip-in" link below. Donations will be used solely for Matt & Dublin's veterinary expenses.
From the bottom of his heart, Dublin thanks you.

Chip in made! As always, I wish it could be more! If I ever win the lottery.....!!!!!! I SO greatly appreciate what the DRC does, and also thank you all for balancing out my emotions. I get so angry and disgusted by anyone who would treat an animal as Dublin was treated, and then I feel happy and uplifted that there are people like the DRC with their hands outstretched to help (and who give me the opportunity to help)! I feel honored to know y'all, even if it is just virtually!!
This little man (not so little actually) is a true gentle giant (he's really not that big). All he wants is for his humans to hug, snuggle and kiss him - not a bad life!!
He is feeling better - he got a bath today and I am told that he loved it so much he just layed down in the tub and relaxed. Guess he likes a spa day!
Dublin and Mickey thank you!
Chipin done!
You always do!! THANK YOU!
Good luck Dublin x hope this helps.
chipin done!! Good luck Matt & Dublin..
Samantha asked me to tell you "I love you guys!! Dublin is sort of family temporarily and Mickey loves him. He is sad that Dublin doesn't see things like he does and really thanks you for helping Dublin out!!".

BTW - Mickey's birthday is today like Samantha's!! Isn't that amazing that 2 doodles who turned out to be family through marriage have the same birthday! Mickey told Samantha that your donation is the best birthday present for both of them and Samantha totally agreed!!

So if you know Samantha or Mickey, or ever read their stories, or ever read anything their Doodle Mom/Doodle Grandma wrote, Samantha & MIckey would greatly appreciate ANYTHING (every $5.00 helps) you can give in the honor of their birthday to help Dublin keep the eyesight in one eye and potentially get the vision back in the other!! Now that will be a fantastic birthday present!
Thank you and God Bless!!
Okay, chipin done here, Dublin!
Done. Wishing good health and a great forever home for both guys!
I'm just overwhelmed at the generosity you have all shown - you are the kindest people I have ever been privileged to know! Thank you all so much!
Ditto from us!
Karen & Jack....thank YOU for sharing Dublin's story.
