Well Oliver was doing so well with his foot problem, he was taking his meds, no problem, leaving the bandage and sock on, no problem, I knew it was too good to last. I took him to the vet to check his foot out, and he told me it 85-90 percent better. We were so happy, so I took him to get a bath, he really needed it, and he was so matted, my fault, I was so busy caring for the foot and working that I let the brushing go, so he now has a doodle face and tail, and a shaved body..The groomer bathed him in a very good oatmeal shampoo that I bought, and really had no choice, so my beautiful doodle looks ridiculous, and not only that, he discovered his paw again, and he has taken off the sock, and tape, and dressing 3x today...So now he is wearing the elizabethian coller, not happy about it, but at least he is not freaking out, like he did before...I am just so depressed that we have to go thru this all over again, with cleaning and dressing etc..but I will, of course...Ugh when will this nightmare end? Yhe vet says once they do this it is very hard to cure, even when the sore is gone, which it is, now he just irritated it again...I know everyone will think I was nuts to take him to be groomed, but he really really needed it, Just hope the fur grows back quickly, he looks so funny with a sheared body and legs and a full face and gorgeous tail...Thanks for listening...

I feel so bad for you! I know how you feel And why is trying to do the best for our dogs what makes us a "bad mommy"??? No such thing ~ you actually were being an extra sensitive, caring mom. "Bad" mommies don't ever call themselves "bad", they just ARE. I think just thinking of yourself as a "bad mommy" actually makes you a "GREAT" mommy! (confused??) LOL...
Hope Oliver is well soon. I know how sad your heart feels when you look at all of that lost hair.... only time can fix that, We've all been there - some of us more than others. Hang in there!
thank you Shelly, he is right next to me now, and he looks so sad, I could cry...How I wish that they could understand that what we do for them is for their own good...I just love my funny looking doodle,,,Wow I wonder if his hair will grow in the same way again....No matter, as long as I can get rid of this paw thing I don't care wht he looks like, lol...Thanks for the emotional support....
That is so awful! I hope he feels better soon. And don't be too discouraged, his hair will grow back! I'm sure he looks cute anyways. :-)
I know it will grow back, I just feel so bad when I look at him, He had such a beautiful coat...Buat I need that foot to heal and hears hoping it does soon, and that the collar, that awful thing will keep him away from the foot...We have to break that cycle of his licking that foot...I am hoping that when the hair grows back he will forget about it, but until then he wears the collar and I will be black & blue from his banging into me, lol...Thanks for the support...
When Fudge got spayed, we woke up one night to find some sort of bloody liquid all over the floor. I thought I had done a good job with her stitches, but truthfully, it grossed me out to look at them. Well, a trip to the vet and she went into the room looking like an adorable Labradoodle and came out with a blue cone on her head and a red and green bandage wrap all around her body. This was to prevent her stitches from opening up. I HATED that cone, but Fudge acted like it was no big deal. I told everyone in the waiting room that she was a clown in the circus. I also loved the advice "to keep her calm and quiet" for what seemed like eternity and did ask for drugs for both of us, but they only prescribed some for her and not me.:) Anyway, this too shall pass. Oliver is going to heal and that beautiful fur will all grow back. Good luck!
Thanks Laurie for the moral support, I need it right now
I am looking at my Gavin right now, with the satellite dish around his head. He got neutered on Thursday. The tech said "he's a licker." So on went the e-collar. I am sure I feel worse about it than he does. All that banging into things can't be fun though. Hopefully your guy heals up soon and as my hair dresser says "hey, its only hair - it will grow back." Which is little comfort to me either when my bangs are too short!
thank you for the kind words, and I know u are right, I am just so frustrated with this licking thing, it has been over a month and he was doing so good, and now we are back to step one...I just feel bad for him, but maybe if I had stuck to my guns when this happened and I made him wear the collar, even though he was terrified of it, we might have been done with this. But no looking back, onward we go...Thanks again
You know... I just saw something - I think in a handout I got at the Westminster Dog show - preliminaries today... It was some sort of bandage that deterred them from licking themselves... it was used instead of the cone.. I'm going to go look for it...
ok.. can't find it on-line. I left the booklet in my car. I will definitely look tomorrow, as it's 1:45 AM now - LOL.
Shelly if u do locate the booklet, PLEASE let me know what it is and where to get it...Thanks, a million...Cheryl
It's so hard when we have to do things that make them unhappy...but we know it's for their own good. That's what actually makes you a GOOD MOMMY! His fur will grow back before you know it!
