Okay... here we go again with the "bad" mommy syndrome. I was giving my son a chewable vitamin C tablet when it rolled out of my hand and onto the floor. Well needless to say who quickly scoffed it up. It was a 500 mg orange flavored tablet.... I looked on-line and all it said is that she could get diarrhea from it. Any thoughts form the "experts"I trust??? THANKS!!!
Vitamin C is water soluble and it's very hard to get an "overdose'...anything not absorbed would just leave the body in the urine. But it can certainly cause diarrhea & possibly an upset tummy. There are other 'inactive' ingredients in the chewables, but in such small quantities that I doubt they could be harmful either from just one tablet.
I'm just lucky that I have a dog who won't even eat normal food, let alone people vitamins, Kleenex, wood chips, etc. So I have to get my hysteria vicariously, LOL!
YES Karen.. I ditto that you should write a book I know a bunch of people right here who would be waiting in line to buy it! GO FOR IT!!!! (you could donate some of the profits to the DRC....tempted yet?)
THANKS You guys!!! Karen, I knew you'd be right on this one!!! THANK YOU!!! This girl's just too much. Fast as lightening! I I thought paper towels and tissues were her first love! THANKS AGAIN!!!
I have been giving 1000mg of Vit C since he was a puppy and the recommended dose for over 50 pds which he is, is about 2500mg a day per "The Whole Pet Diet" by Andi Brown, and this is based on clinical experience by Dr. Belfield, and in the book "How to Have a Healthier Dog."
Don't know how big your dog is but "up to 625 mg is recommended for a 2-10 pd dog". Have a feeling your doodle is a tad bigger than that. I'd be surprised if you see diarrhea. Keep us posted?
Tori is 38 pounds. Wow! Maybe she knew better than me and felt she needed the extra vitamin... SHE'S SUCH A SMART DOG!!! LOL Thanks. Think I'm going to go look up that book now.
Pepsi has done this twice and nothing has happened, not even diarrhea. He sure moves fast when he hears them drop on the floor! The first time I couldn't even get the "leave it!" command out, the second time he completely ignored me.
