Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My foster is a black goldendoodle who at 8 months seems to be turning colors. She is blowing her puppy coat and I am curious about what might take place with her adult coat.  Her undercoat is mahogany in some areas, brown in others, and even golden retriever  orange.

Any other  black doodles out there that changed coat colors?

Do you have a picture you can show me?

Right. It's based on the idea of a "phantom" or ghostly image in a photograph, where the dark and light areas are reversed. Phantoms usually have lighter faces than their overall body color.
Yes, this is definitely phantom coloring. Phantoms tend to have more black as puppies but they don't change colors. My doodle seemed more black and white as a puppy, but now seems more beige and black. Here is a recent photo.

BEE U TEE FULL </:-)
All these doodles are so beautiful! I love all the colors.
This is exactly what is happening--only not white but red. Same areas! I trimmed her frayed dry ends ( she came to me with poor nutrition and a bad coat) and her color is changing by the hours. No Joke. I left tonight and when I came home my husband agreed her hair had changed again.

Her back is turning orange to cream. So hard to explain. I appreciate every ones input. I hope to see more. :)
Hey Lynda...you gave Groucho Too a hair cut!!!! He is beautiful and it is much easier to see his distinct features. Very handsome boy. Did Hondo get one too?
Well, you have seen our Lucy ..... she was coal black as a puppy. She'll be 2 next Month. She started turning almost immediately. Also, check out Melissa and Samson (from the Cincinnati area). She has a doodle named Shelby I believe and last year at Romp Around the World, you couldn't tell her and our Sophie apart. The only way I could tell from a distance was the color of their bandannas. However, as soon as she had her first haircut she lost all her apricot and is now a totally cream doodle. Doesn't look a thing like our Sophie.
When did you get her and what do you know about her background/mix? How is she doing in your foster home?

Brown, blue, and silver poodles can start out looking jet black and then change as they mature. It is possible that her coat may continue to change several times before she settles on a final color.

You may end up with a brown doodle or a dark doodle with brown hues.

How fun!!!
Natasha, she is doing to well in our home :) My Spud adores her. Lives for her. Shows her everything
She is a very unique girl. Full of spunk, but a tad bipolar with other dogs and cats. LOL

I know nothing about her background :( She has been with us three weeks gained more than 10 lbs and thanks to Georgia & Sammie's Mom's suggestions, I gave her a nice trim to even out her messy dry coat.

Now, with this new glossy new growth she changes colors by the hour. She certainly has me puzzled??,
The same thing happens to my hair when I see my hairstylist. However, I pay big bucks. Lucky Hailey.
My Halle was all black, and now at 8 months, she has very definite brown, and lighter, shadings on her beard! At first, I thought it was dirt, but now I see that she is just lightening up in places!!

I just LOVE the faces on these two buddies... very sweet!!!
